I'm new to the site here. I've been coming across this site for a while searching the web for reloading help and was impressed so I thought I'd join.
I'd like to start reloading for my Rem 700 bdl 300 Win Mag with a 26" barrel and a Timney trigger. It has a Leupold VX3 4.5x14x40 CDS scope on it.
This is going to be a hunting rifle only. I'd like to be able to shoot out to 600 yards for punching paper and steel.
The gun really likes the Federal 180 gr Factory loads(Speer SP)at 2960 fps but it did not like the Doubletap Accubonds at an advertised speed of 3050 fps. I did not have a chrono at the time so I'm not sure how fast they were actually shooting..
I pulled the Accubonds on the other box of Doubletap's and found 71.2 grains of powder. I'm thinking H4350 or something in that range maybe? Maybe I need a slower burning powder like H4831sc or RL22?
I just got my Magnetospeed Sporter so now I can actually check some speeds.
I was planning on starting with the 180 gr Accubonds/ Winchester Brass/ Federal 215M primer and some RL22.
I've read on every site that many 300's like the Accubond with 75 grs of RL22 so that's what I'm going to work up to at first to see if my gun likes it too.
Is there anyone in the Boise area who could help with some basic setup questions? I could use some pointers as reading and actually doing/being shown the correct methods could get me over the learning curve much quicker
Thanks
