Load Delelopment, 300 Weatherby

Wondering if anyone has any pet loads for a 300 Weatherby using 180 grain Nosler AccuBonds and IMR4064. Used it 20 years ago but I neglected to record the charge weight I'd used. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

The Sierra book accuracy load for the 300wby using R-25 is the best with 180's. Slower than 4064 and More accurate. I killed many deer and elk with it.

4064 is too fast of a powder for the 300 Weatherby and 180's.

Any of them powders will work much better that IMR-4064.

I had great luck with Reloader 17 or H4350 with 180 gr. Barnes TSX bullets

I have had good luck with 178gr Amax and 77grs. Hybrid 100V. Good velocity and groups with cold barrel

Very early on, before I discovered the beauty of the long, heavy, high BC bullet, I used to shoot the 180 class bullets....mostly the Balistic Tip.. I ended up using RL22 on many of the guns I loaded for with the 180 class bullets. Later came the new RL 25 and heavier 210-215-220-230 high BC bullets.

I agree with what was said above....IMR 4064 is too fast.

How many grains of RL17 did you use?

On my shelf, I've got IMR 4350, H4350, RL17 and Viht160 so the choice will be between those four.

Imr 4831 or H4831 has been my choice for years. Make sure you use mag primers . Larry

Agreed. I use 7828 SSC in my .300 Win Mag as well and get much better accuracy and velocity using 215 & 230 Hybrids than I did with H1000.
