New YouTube Policy Restricts Firearms Videos

I never understood the allure of Hickock45, I couldn't care less about that channel. He's the Scotty Kilmer of the gun channels.

But, overall, the gun community just needs to rip the Band-Aid off and move to a better platform, maybe that's Rumble.

As long as creators are posting it on both sites, consumers will probably watch it on the platform where they watch their other content, YT.
hickok45 is fun and kinda informative. similar to scott's channel kentucky ballistics. btw neither was a shill for the nra or trump for that matter.

I don’t know how it is all these social media platforms end up going down that road, save Twitter thanks to Elon. I know there are 2A friendly places to go, it’s just getting everyone to make the same switch so it works and has some longevity. You would think it wouldn’t be that hard but it seems it is…

I used to look at all his youtube stuff till I caught him in some half truths and B.S. Dont remember what now. That was a long time ago. I guess when you talk as much as he does you cant always be 100%. Doug

To contextualize the issue, they receive guns and money from gun manufacturers and/or dealers. They then review that product with the intent (by the manufacturer or reseller) of getting people interested in buying the guns.

This is just YT reinterpreting their own policies in a more narrow way. I haven't been able to hyperlink a reseller or manufacturer for quite some time. This is just an extension of that policy.

What remains to be seen is how this interpretation will play out. Will YT ban videos sponsored by a gun manufacturer even if there is no intent to sell their wares? I mean, if I took money from, say XYZ gun company, and made a video about neck tension without even showing XYZ's guns, would that be banned? I'm actually afraid to ask YT, for fear that they will use that as a "good idea".

I am now posting all of my "pubic" videos on Patreon as a backup to YT. Those are available to the pubic, without having to buy anything.

Last time I looked at posting on Rumble, I was utterly unimpressed. I have looked at some others and don't see how that is going to add value either.

Ultimately, YT is an advertising platform. I am quite fed up with the ads and am looking for ways to improve the viewing experience of my subscribers. The solution eludes me to this point.

What needs to happen is someone well funded needs to sue YouTube for antitrust. (Google is YouTube. Google is Android. Google is partnered with Facebook.) Because their platform is on a public domain platform, it actually is a public platform.

The internet is not private. No matter what anyone says. The internet was built using taxpayer money.

But this is our country now. Take public resources and sell them to private companies. And then the private companies can claim they "own" public resources and can dictate their use.

Sadly, nothing will be done by anyone. Because this is just the values that Americans have accepted as normal now.

Solution is to register a domain name, buy some simple software and put up your own site with text and video access. A then put up a paywall. Ie I would watch Ian on his own site for a buck a year. No ads. he has over 2.5m subscribers. all he has to do is find a 2a friendly bank and way for his followers to pay him electronically.

This is already out there. Pepperbox.tv

Quite a few of the GunTubers have content on it now.
