New to Forum -- Interested in Rimfire Benchrest

New member here, thanks for the add. I'm thinking about jumping into the local ARA Rimfire Benchrest league. I've visited a couple times and checked out their setups for Unlimited. It's pretty impressive gear, and it ain't cheap either. I'm interested in the Factory class for now. We'll, thanks again for letting me join the group and I look forward to learning more

The rabbit hole is deep Welcome.

A great place to get a unified, well presented overview from someone who has the credentials. Otherwise you might find yourself following the advice of ... well ... somebody like me.

When I sell a rifle I set the tuner at "0". The buyer always asks where it shot best. I answer it makes no difference because as soon as you get to the range you are going to be twisting on it anyway. Same thing with "advice".

Rifle, scope, and good ammo are the 3 basics. I shoot a Winchester 52D with a 45X45 Leupold scope. You can really go crazy CZ457 is a more modern way ($500-2300), Vudu can run $3200, and Zero Comp can run $3500. Good ammo can run from 160-250/brick. Sorting rounds by weight and rim thickness (gauges can range from $50-250). You will also need a front benchrest ($75-3500).
In my youth, the 52D would shoot .110-.140 at 100 yards, for a 5 shot group and you could find one for $450-1500 used.
You can spend a lot of $ or a WHOLE LOT OF $ but you need to practice, practice, practice!
Enjoy

Are you sure about that????

I think that I'd better look for a 52D for my new Unlimited gun.

But, all above are good suggestions for finding out more about rimfire BR. It is addictive, exciting, frustrating, and a great place to make friends and share common interests.
