New to 6 Dasher Proposed Build

Matt, I feel if you are gonna travel and shoot National's that the WSM isn't gonna do it..

Williamsport I honestly feel like a guy should have a WSM and a 6BR improved (Dasher) ready to go.. WSM is for sure gonna score better at Williamsport, but on a good day it's hard to beat those darn 6mm's

Ray
Ray I have done well my WSM. Even in light gun. In the heavy the WSM can shoot right with the 6. You haven't seen the winds at some of the ranges. In 2005 at Iowa I had 8 minutes of wind on with a 240 Sierra out of a 308 Baer. OHIO used to have some tremendous winds. The Sierra bullets canopy went 50 feet in the air, cleared The Kelbys motor home and ended up about 100 yards down in the field. I was on the line and looked back to my spotter just in time to see it going. North Carolina has winds like Williamsport. It is a tough range at times. In 2006 whole relays got blown off target.

There is nothing wrong with the accuracy of a Dasher. A good stable has both horses in them. This post is not cutting a Dasher. I shoot both, but when conditions get bad I like the bigger bullet. Matt

Well, first 2 barrels done on this 6bra reamer broke 1k records. Roger gower broke the lg score at williamsport, and Tom Mosel broke the 10 match hg agg record. Leo Anderson broke the 10 match lg score agg record with a dasher. 2 great rounds but I think the dasher will be on its way out.

Would you say that is a pretty good showing for the uncle BR/Baby Dasher? Lol

You know it gets day light about 5 am up here this time of year right? Maybe we should make a rule where all matches start at a certain time after local sun rise? I mean 9 am in Ga. is very different then 9 am in Mt. right? That would be the most fair no? I would be all for an equal start time after sunrise as well as a standard match format. And guess what? The cream will still rise to the top...

And what does your comment have to do with a cartridges agging abilities? Sounds more like some kind of spiteful/jealous comment rather than an intelligent one.
Please don't think this comment came from someone in Ga.

I would never think that, lol ;) I hear that stuff all the time. The matches here have not changed much since 1997. I am a relative new comer just donating my time to a sport and group of people I enjoy. I can take all the whiners can dish out :) I would love to shoot all day, it would be great if we got 90 guys like Williamsport. However the population of the whole state of Mt. is 1 million. Some big cities have close to that. We could hold 2 matches a day, its been discussed. We would need to form a second club and shoot 2 seasons because no one wants to only shoot 2.5 weekends a year. Then I guess we'd hear it about that too. When I was competitive I just shot as small as I could every match and never even thought about other shooters or other ranges. It was just about doing the best I could.

All I can tell you is that the node is 2980-2990 in a BRA. I do not have experience with the brdx. The point with the brass is making good brass. When guys make dasher cases the screw them up. If your lengths are not coming out within one or two thousandths after forming you have made inconsistent brass. Hydro forming was great, very good cases. The BRA makes good cases no matter what. It really is a better case. I have not chambered a dasher since the first bra if that tells you anything about how its catching on...
So now that everyone is shooting BRA and it starts breaking records. That will make it better than the Dasher?

6mm BRA should just be the 6mm BR re-shouldered to an Ackley Improved angle. (~40* shoulder angle) Same as the Dasher, just shorter..

I'm not sure its 100% standard yet, the length to the shoulder has some variations. Maybe Alex can chime in there.

This not completely true, a Harrell's die is made to fit from 3 fired cases for only 75.00 and is as good or better than Redding off the shelf die. You may want to try a Brux 7.83 they shoot the lights out in a HV. @ 28" One more point buy your own reamer, PM. me and I will give you the specs. That way Your stuff works from one barrel to the next. ........ Jim

Not quite so, I talked to the owner of Harrel's Percission a couple weeks ago, when I ordered a press from him, about custom dies for my Dasher. I just sent off my FF brass today. He stated they are not one off custom dies, he said when they machine the dies they get a little variance from die to die. He said they then measure them and separate them by size and put on the shelf. When you send in your fire formed brass they measure all three, and then go through their dies and find the best fit for your brass. Not quite one off custom but as close as your going to get for $75.00. I have heard nothing but good about their dies. Great people to deal with, when I ordered my press I asked him how much and if he was ready for my credit card, he said just send me a check with the invoice copy and 3 pieces of 3x fired brass and add $79.00 for the die, I told him I could pay today because I didn't know when I could get around to firing the brass, gun was at the smiths, and it might take 5-6 weeks or more. He said thats alright, just send the check for the press and die once you fire the cases, I trust you. I felt bad because I knew it was going to be a while and I wanted to pay him, but he wouldn't have it. Old school business and customer service, he has my business first for know on.

I have know idea what you are talking about, they are in sizes. but he will return your brass with the die. Your getting the cart a head of the horse. You have no idea what chamber you are going to have....... Jim

The brass is fire formed to your chamber( shot 3x) and sent to him and tell him what reamer was used to cut your chamber, most guys looking to utilize his services will know what reamer their chamber was cut from, or could find out.He Is not getting your Brass and then machining a Die to fit your brass. Example: he told me he has many different dasher reamer prints and dies made off them, while machining the die on a given print spec each die will still have minor variances in size. He measures them and sorts them so when he receives your brass he measures the brass and pics a die closest to the donor brass specs. I don't know, he may do one off's for a wildcat round I don't know, but when I asked him for custom sizing die for my Dasher thats how he said its done, he said he doesn't machine it special off that piece of brass. He just sorts through his stock of dies he made off that reamer print and finds the one with the closest tolerances to your brass.Thats what you are getting for the $79.00 shipped. I hope this explains the process a little better than my previous post, this is how He explained it to me. Everyone I have heard from loves his dies.

You assumed he made a special die for for each off the wall reamer. I went the other way I had a reamer made to fit the Dasher D3 die. Simple but effective ...... Jim

What Muleystalker said is right from Harrells... There's more than one way to skin that cat but if you send fired cases to them Harrels will pick what he thinks is best. Can't beat that. Not for $79 SHIPPED

The advertised price is 75.00 and it is on the site. brakes are 30 .00 got 4 ..... 120.00 to my door. Unless they raised the price now ..... Jim
