New Sierra Hunting Bullet

Yeah, as @K22 said, they need to make available the bullets that they already produce.

I have yet to see any of the 25 caliber, 110gr Tipped GameKings.
Or the 7mm, 140gr TGK.

And both have been "out" for what, 3 years now?
I got 500 of the .257 110 Tipped Gamekings from Grafs a month or 6 weeks ago. They’re shooting good out of my 25-06, can’t wait to thump a whitetail with one

A quick search shows available at Grafs, midway USA and directly from sierra.

I personally have been able to find them readily available since October.

Sierra, in my experience, has always made great bullets that gave me excellent accuracy and terminal performance (hunting). The 85 BTHP 6mm bullet is the best I ever shot in the 243 Win over the last 50+ years. At one time they ruled the competitive scene.

The problem with Sierra is availability, at least over the past 5 years. Prior to that, I could always get what I wanted, when I wanted, without having to stock a large inventory. This forced me to move on to other brands. It seems somewhere around 2019 or so they placed reloaders at the bottom of their priority list. They have a lot of ground to make up if they want me back as an on-going customer.

Rather than adding a "new" bullet, I hope they increase production on the existing bullets, so they are more readily available. I just had to vent.
I JUST loaded 300 rounds of 243 with this bullet this past week. 37 grains of IMR 4064 and this bullet is pure gold. Myself along with my two boys have used this combo on many antelope and deer. I shanked one but the other 3 were good shots.

I talk with people at Sierra from time to time. Last month I had a
good one, and surprised this bullet did not come up ?? Sierra has
been going thru some changes. With Sierra's acquiring of Barnes
and the Clarus Corporation now owning Sierra, expect some minor
shuffling......For what it's worth.....You used to be able to get jackets
from Sierra. All jacket production is going into their product line
and none available to the public. Covid is gone, and supply's are
coming back to normal. The big worry again will be what Trumps
tariff wars will bring with the supply chain again, and it's all about
the supply chain and current escalated brush fires across the globe.
The military has large contracts with Sierra and not Hornady, thus
another supply chain issue.

So about this new bullet ?? I'll call em' back and ask what happened
to the 7mm's. I prefer a tangent ogive bullet.

Clarus sold Sierra and Barnes to JDH Capitol in February of 2024.

The 85 BTHP - IMR 4064 and the 243 Win go together like peanut butter and jam. Now you have a load combo you can hunt deer, varmints and predators without changing loads.

I never had a 243 Win, and I have owned several brands with twist ranging from 9 1/4 to 10", that didn't shoot this bullet extraordinarily great. Welcome to the 85 BTHP club.

PS: Varget is also an excellent backup powder for this bullet.

My (now) 16 year old and 13 year old son have killed a truck full of mulies and antelope with this combination. I’ve had people tell me it was too small for them big rutted up deer. Haha, we just tell the deer it’s a 270.

When I was young and dumb, despite complete success with the 243 Win hunting Eastern White Tail and smaller critters, I switched to the 30 06 after reading gun writer articles.

Don't get me wrong, the 06 is a great cartridge but it's over kill for Eastern White Tail. What I got was the same dead deer plus a new "eyebrow" from the scope recoil, a black and blue shoulder from range shooting, more expensive ammo and a flinch. In addition, less range time because getting punched in the shoulder by Joe Fraizer was not my idea of fun which resulted in less practice and a resultant decline in my field marksmanship skills. My wallet didn't like the more expensive ammo either.

So, I went to the 308, another great cartridge. This was more manageable recoil wise, and I shot my two largest bucks with it. But as I aged into my late 60's, I wanted less recoil.

So, I went back to the 243 Win where I started. I wondered why in the world I ever went away from this truly great and misunderstood cartridge. Then I remembered, "gun magazine disease". What the 243 Win gave me back was supreme confidence in making a shot because I can practice a lot with it without punishing recoil. It's all about shot placement.

I went through that phase too. I started shooting the 308 in a Springfield Armory M1A in Iraq in 2004. LOVE the 308 and started using it exclusively for everything. Like you, now I use 22/250 and 243. So much more fun.

Nice to see a 6.5 142!
Interested if they do an updated 7mm soon.

I’ve always had a good experience with Sierra Bullets.
