Short OAL in custom barrel

I have a new custom barrel, first one, that measures short OAL using Hornady lock and load. Barrel maker told me chamber was cut to slimmer ogive Sierra Matchking 168 gr bullet when I called to express concern about my hunting bullets. Here are specs:

barrel is 26 inch bull sporter in 308

Sierra 165 hpbt to lands, 2.6185, sierra spec 2.75
Sierra 150 SP 2.6739 to lands sierra spec is 2.75
Sierra MK 168, 2. 70 to lands. Sierra spec is 2.80

Today I am working up Benchmark loads from 40-41.4 at 2.68 OAL to see how shoots. I have not shot this bullet yet. Accuracy with hunting bullets is .54 to 1. at 100.

Please tell me if this is normal for a tight customer chamber of if I have something to think about. Best JR

Aslong as the part of the bullet above the boattail is above the neck/shoulder junction, you should be fine. Having more bullet in the case can raise pressures too, so start low and work up, but it's probably fine. What type of shooting do you plan for it?

I hunt big, big hog here in texas with bow. Biggest 350, recurve bow.

And, there is a place I can hunt with rifle. I plan on using 308 to kill hogs. And would like to experiment with long range set ups plus 300 yds. My bow set up is 15 yds.

And, I am compulsive about 100 yd BR. I want that rifle shooting ragged holes. Would like to move out to longer ranges with 308. my equipment is good, my method is sound. Shooting can always improve.

Thank you, JR

Your concern here & now seems invalid.
Why are you so focused on 'sierra spec'?
What is YOUR spec?
YOU ordered the barrel, right?

I guess my my point is that as a reloader you should focus on what you have -rather some other spec. It's a benefit of reloading that you can account for this, and it sounds like you are.
So I don't understand the concern.

Nearly all chambered barrels are unique to themselves. The bores are unique as well.
You can set the specs yourself,, have em made the way you want. Or you can measure and adjust for whatever you ended up with. That's reloading.

If you're really concerned that some load from a book might be affected by your chamber, well that load from a book cannot be counted on anyway -in YOUR barrel.
You work up safely. Again, that's reloading.
You're in control.
