New SEB Smallbore Rest

I received the rest I ordered about 3 weeks ago. It's actually my wife's but I ordered it . She has only shot it twice but loves the rest. It does seem stiff to operate, but some people like it that way. It covers complete IR 50/50 or ARA target no problem. I've shot 15-20 rounds through it and really like it. She was shooting off Protector rear bag, but just purchased a Lenzi to use with the front rest. I use a Lenzi and it is no where close to that and neither is the price.

If I still shot factory class with my CZ 457 MTR, I would buy one to use. I love the joystick and you cant beat this rest at this price point.

We hope it loosens up a little more as it gets used. We also put the PMA feet on it.

To loosen up before use, turn the handle around its longitudinal axis a couple of times to free up the bearing

Mine is on the way too, from Indonesia.
But...can someone explain about the top having a 360° swivel.
I understand about the advantage of that as I use a Farley 2 and do have to move my rear bag around as I traverse across a target card.
My query is about the actual swivel feature. Can you lock that in position for each shot, or does it freely swivel all the time?
Oh yeah, a travel bag...great idea. The Mini-X came with one and it looks so handy.
Thanks.

It works similar to the Mini-X. Loosening the lock below the mariner's wheel allows the top to rotate as necessary as you line up the rest to your target. Once centered up you lock it in place. No need to touch it again since the joystick has lots of travel.

Hello Terry, I am very glad you like the rest. The joystick movement can be stiff if it hasn't been used for several days or more. To loosen it you just need to ensure the joystick is attached firmly to the center shaft and rotate the joystick 2/3 times (check that the center shaft also rotate together with the joystick). This will respread the lube inside the bearing mechanism resulting in much smoother joystick action.

Note: You could also insert the 4mm hex key into the holes on the joystick counternut and turn it counterclockwise for tighter connection.

Question for Chris, do you have or plan on a travel bag for the AR250
Hello Gene, I am currently trying to find outside vendors who could produce SEB quality bags. Right now there is still a massive production backlog which is preventing me from being able to offer carrying bags (and other types of bag as well). When I do find a good vendor, I'll try my best to add more bag options.

Some of my customers said that they use the Pelican 1507 to carry the rest if you want a quicker option.

A very good suggestion made by Robert Bock is to offer a complete set of AR250 rest + carrying case + a 3" high rear bag with smaller footprint than the current SEB rear bags. I think this will be my next project after my current main objective which is to always have the AR250 rest in stock all year round. I am currently in production of the second batch of 200 units.

Mine arrived 2 days ago. Shot with it yesterday 25 yards indoor benchrest.
Very pleased. It covered the target card easily.
Held it's aim and never moved. Even shot a card with removing my hand from the joystick once the target was lined up. The counterbalance setup works so well my POA never moved a fraction.
Only thing that confused me to start with was no details about filling the sand bag (mine's a one piece 3").
The instructions just say to 'fit the bag', so I did. Figured these must be some fancy synthetic bag.
Got the rest all put together and thought the bag was too soft and squishy...took the bag out and then saw the wee plastic 'buttons' underneath.
Yeah, OK...I'm getting old and slow. Popped the 'buttons' out and they are a plastic plug.
Sure enough...that's where you put the filling in (I used crushed walnut shell).
My fellow shooter with a new Mini-X had the same issue until I told him about the plugs.
He just put his together as per the instruction sheet. No mention there about actually filling the bag/s first.
He too thought maybe the front bag is some fancy thing that didn't need filling.
We are both a bit older and wiser now.
Would like a bag to carry it in, but may get a nice tool case instead.
Couldn't rotate the joystick around to free up the action. The plastic lock nut setup for the joystick just spun on the shaft. Bunged on the counterbalance (it's metal and with a set screw to hold it).
That worked. Spun the thing around a couple of times and boy, was it stiff at first. Freed up nicely now though.
Otherwise...all good. It's a nice rest.

Hello Kelvin, thank you very much for your input and apologies for the confusion. I have revised my manual to include filling the sandbag. As for the joystick there's a newer improved version in the work for the second batch which would allow you to tighten the joystick firmly without having to use as much force.

I recommend putting a couple drops of teflon lube on the ball bearing located on the back of the body (Part 21) once in a while to keep it smooth and lubricated properly. Teflon lube spray like these should do the job well https://www.amazon.com/Finish-Line-Lubricant-8-Ounce-Aerosol/dp/B00U30TF58.

Also, you could check out this unboxing & first time setup manual video of the AR250.

I ordered one 3 weeks ago. It was here in 8 days(DHL thank you). I'm new to Benchrest and never had a joy stick. I have had it to the range and shared it with a friend and our only comment is WOW!!!! The rest is very solid for as small that it is, and the construction is wonderful.
Many thanks for making a great product and delivering it so promptly.
Dave

looks like the rest works as advertised

Yiu will sell lots of them and make a bunch of us shooters very happy

well done sebbies

Will the revised joystick be available to buy separately, as I will be wanting one?
I had already started planning on getting some alloy tubing to make a new joystick with thumbscrews for attachment. But if you will be revising the design then I will wait to buy one.
Something like this to attach it firmly (my Farley had 2 of these on the attachment point).

I made a "key" to fit, also replaced the knob with some "bling:

Is the key just a means to apply more force to the plastic 'nut'?
I do like the bling knob!
Thanks.
Yes, and it works fine. I actually made 3 different ones. Found a Stainless Steel screw with the correct ID, cut off the head, trimmed the threaded part to length, put a little piece of wood in my lathe, bored a hole, shaped to finish, and fixed the modified screw with supa glue.

With the "key", not much force is needed for a snug fit, don't overdo it.
