New rifle came in finally

but you must remember, he has his own Talisman, you may be toast no matter what he shoots,,
You are correct sir. The kid has been able to shoot since the first bb gun landed in his hands. He won the boy scout shoot at 7 or 8 without a drop of competition. Granted it was mostly kids that had never shot and he had been shooting a 22 for a couple years at that point and already had a love for shooting the ar.
I really wish i could afford to put him behind a comp rifle. I think he would excel.

It's not just Savage that ships filthy barrels , it's almost all makers , I have seen some nasty even surprising crap come out of new factory barrels , both pistol and rifle.... I would never fire anything without a complete clean anymore...

It's crazy how much difference ammo makes in .22lr , I shot some federal target I found in my .22 stash that was probably bought right after the great shortage , I don't even remember buying it... I have been replacing all I can with CCI-SV or other ammo I like over the last few years.

That federal target was the absolute worst shooting ammo I have ever fired... It took a gun that will shoot half inch at 50 with CCI-SV all day and turned it into 4 inch pattern you could barely cover with your open hand... I thought something went wrong with the rifle , luckily I had a half a box of something better in my range bag and realized what it was before I disassembled it to find out what happened , I threw the rest if the box in the garbage at the range.. I decided to burn up the other three boxes in a heritage rough rider I have as a toy and it shot horrible in that also.. Don't be surprised if you find something like this in your tests.. Once you find what it likes start buying it....

My 455 one holes with federal target
Target or match..? I haven't seen anymore target for sale... The box looks like a match or ultra match box but it says target instead.... Wish I would have known I would have sent you the other four baxes for free if it was target...

Guys on Rfc forums say pull a dry patch thru when switching ammo,,,lube is proprietary,,
The bullet lube is absolutely necessary , you can take a good Shooting bullets , run a box then switch to a bullet the rifle doesn't like and it will shoot well for about five shots till it's lube takes over... Rimfire is a strange animal....

My ammo should arrive today via ups. My plan is not to try the 11 different types i have till after my last fopen match on the 27th. I will take my scope off fopen rifle and put on the 22. During these nearly 2 weeks till i should glass bed the action, out of the box the barreled action would move back and forth in the stock.

Once i have the action bedded and athlon scope on i plan to clean, oil, then dry patch before each different ammo then shoot 3 five shot groups, first group as fouler then 2 groups to see how it does. At 50 yard.

Should this plan be sufficient to determine which ammo it really likes?

Please dont like eley tenex, please dont like eley tenex!!!
That stuff is crazy expensive but figured id give the rifle the option

Well after a lot of time cleaning and not much shooting it felt like, my rifle shoots best with the norma match which i am not displeased with at 65 dollars for 500 shipped its not terribly expensive. It actually shot pretty poor with the tenex, and centerx which were the most expensive ones. Second best was federal gold medal then was close between sk red box and cci standard velocity.

With the norma match it would make one 30 cal hole if i did my job. It did that 2 times.

Mr. Adams:

Or ten or fifteen rounds when going from Wolf super duper to Federal Automatch. It was my first try with the Federal and I was shooting as well as with Midas+ and better than the Wolf. I thought I had gone to heaven and that the Federal Automatch was the best thing since air conditioning.

Then, it wasn't.

I have found that just running a patch is not sufficient but rather a full cleaning with whatever the solvent de jour is and then a number of fouling shots 5 for my Anschutz 54 and about ten to fifteen for my CZ's

I hope the skim bedding i just did on it turns out well. Scares the hell out of me bedding a rifle

Thinking my member was going to get permanently stuck was my first great fear. Luckily, it didn't get stuck.

As to rifles, I was so afraid, I purchased a Norinco POS for $100 and an extra stock even for that rifle, in case I messed up. I did a full job and, much to my surprise, it popped right out.

This is my second bedding still just as scary as the first.

I cleaned with solvent several patches then several patches dry. 5 foulers is what i used then a 5 shot group. It is amazing how much lube are on some bullets. Seemed like the lapua centerx was extremely oily.

I thought the same thing. Of course, as soon as I thought that, my CZ455 VPT shot Eley Tenex the best. :(
