New Remington 700 Post-Bankruptcy

I personally do not see how Remington is up and running in Georgia with their new
tooling and machines. I suspect these Remington's that are being sold are old stock they had after the bankruptcy and are pieced together. They have no stocks so are buying them from Hogue. When the "new" Remington's are made I think you may see a significant
difference. Privately held, so not much info out there.

I thought PTG bought up all the inventory and in process stock from the old Remington.?

I would tend to agree with this... NOS (new old stock) needs to get turned before something new comes along. I figured the bbl actions being sold through PTG were the last hurrah.

However, looking to the future, there are good private equity firms and bad ones. I don't know where this one falls in the spectrum, but I hope they let the company take a mid term viewpoint (ie profitable in 3 years) or else it will the SSDD with Remington. If they do that and get some decent product improvement and product planning/execution, they should do well. I like both of mine (RR S/N) and see the 700 action as a step between Savage and Tikka in quality, but with infinite upgrade potential.

Is that little stamp thingy that I'm seeing on one of mine that looks like the thing you photograph from restaurant menus what you guys are talking about? I've wondered what it was.

I purchased a 700 SPS AAC-SD 22” varmint contour 6.5 Creedmoor just before the bankruptcy. It was $399.99 on clearance and there was a $100 rebate on it. I sold the factory Hogue stock for $100 and put the rifle in a secondhand H-S Precision stock I had $150 in

This rifle replace my Tikka CTR in the same chambering. Problem with the CTR was that this was the slowest barrel to ever exist; 2550 fps with 140 bullets. It did shoot well, but didn’t outperform my .308 in anyway except reduced recoil. I sold the CTR for $950 and bought the Remington.

The Remington shot 1/2 MOA with Hornady Black ammunition and beat with the loads I developed for the Tikka on the first trip out. Bolt close was a bit stiff because the Remington had less headspace. Velocity was 2700 fps with the same ammo.

I didn’t want to continue shooting the Berger 140 Hybrids out of this rifle because of availability and cost, this is just a knock-around rifle after all, so I found some of the cheaper 140 gr Hornady BTHPs and developed a load.

Here is the result of some load development. It continued to print similar groups after a little seating depth testing. Not bad for Remington’s bankruptcy era QC:7EF97300-7E82-4E81-B2A5-467B20EFE3C7.jpeg

The RR series actions are supposed to have been produced on full cnc machines. I saw a video that @skeetlee put out checking them for tolerances. The receiver face was within 1 thousanth. I have a late M7 receiver that the locking lug recesses and receiver face were that tight as well. I realize a sample of two doesn’t necessarily mean much, but it is (was?) encouraging.

Skeetlee done two of my single shot actions, he said that they were very straight. The bolt on one of them, he did not even cut on, although he still charged me for the full blueprint. Straight actions for sure.

If they would bring back the 720 with high polished bluing and a fancy wooden stock, in larger cartridges, it would certainly catch my eye.

My local gun shop have gotten 3 new Rem 700’s in lately. The ones they have are in the SPS stock, with a flat black finish, but a jeweled bolt on all three. The ones they have are in 6.5 CM, .308, and .30-06. I think the action is smoother than the old ADL/SPS prior to bankruptcy. I can’t rmemetif the price is $599 or $699, but all 3 are the same price.

I purchased a new 700 CDL in 30/06 about a month ago for a rebuild. RA serial number. This thing was incredible for a stock Rem. The tolerances on it were better than some customs I had already. Front of action was out .0002", bolt lugs had full contact, primary extraction was very good. The threads were out .002" so I single point cut them. Bushed the firing pin hole and turned to .068". Also the barrel I took off had a real good finish inside with a straight chamber and throat. Pinned the recoil lug that was only out .0002". This will be a 6.5x284 hunting rifle.

Nice! I really liked the CDL’s, but never did buy one.

The CDLs were a very good looking gun, if i was picking that would be it in a Remington. Or maybe a Sendro.
