New Reloading Bench Build

My reloading gear gas been packed away since I moved back in August. Between work obligations and getting everything else in order around the house, I haven't had time to dedicate to the man cave / reloading room until now.

My old reloading bench was framed up out of 2 x 4s so I couldn’t get it down into the finished basement without complete disassembly which would have been a real pain even though it was screwed together. I decided to set it up in the garage here I will use it cleaning guns as well as the dirtier parts of brass prep.

I wanted the new bench to be fairly easy to break down and relocate in case I decide to move again in the future. I ended up going with 2” black iron pipe and fittings for the frame. The top is constructed of a couple of 2” x 8” cross pieces with three 2” x 12”s topped of by piece of birch plywood that I stained and urethaned. It turned out super strong and I can break it down to 4 pieces in minutes by removing the lag bolts that attach the top and breaking the two pipe unions that connect the frame pieces.

Here are few pics. I still have to mount my press and I’m going to build some shelves using similar construction with 1” black iron pipe and fittings.

Thanks for the compliments! I was pleased with how it turned out.

Impressive, must be a little "plumber" running in your veins  .

@Riesel, in addition to being involved in construction for most of my life, I spent seven years in the oil and gas industry overseeing production facility builds for some of the most prolific gas wells in the country. My old supply guy who is also a member here ordered the pipe and fittings for me and I had a guy from one of the construction companies that I used to use a lot do the cutting and threading for me.

This afternoon I picked up two matching filing cabinets that my wife located for me on Facebook marketplace. I paid the lady $20 each and I don’t think I could have found a better storage solution for several times that amount. They are heavy duty enough to load down with ammo and brass. 2B3FB683-5987-4FF0-A9E4-DFB6C7AC8A23.jpeg

Mark W, your on a roll, great find on those filing cabinets, and I'm drawing up my pipe workbench now.

Thanks
Riesel

That’s pretty cool!
I like the way you set the bottom brace piece farther back than center for more leg room.
What did the finished height of the table come out at? Thanks!

Interesting way to do it. It doesn’t wobble when you size a case with a hardened neck? I need to make a loading bench and was gonna make it of heavy wood like 4x6s—. I do have a pipe threader though
