New Redding 1" Dies

Just reading about these dies.
Can some please tell what size bushings they take I cannot seem to find anything on the required bushings.

There is way more flex in your press than in a die. Set up a fl die and size a piece of brass, But don't lower the ram. I will bet there is a 1/16" gap between the shell holder and the bottom of the die. This is why some people think they need a small based fl die. Set your dies right and then you don't need them.

Once again I will state:

"In theory, practice and theory are the same.
In practice, they are not."

I can see the theory behind large case diameter dies being weaker (thinner wall thickness) but in reality wouldn't just adding dwell time to your sizing stroke accomplish the same thing? I tested my own sizing process with dwell time at top of stroke vs no dwell time and got considerably more consistent case measurements.

I guess since they didn't make a roll sizer, this will have to do.

In response to the cool kids demanding a 1inch die, I am going to quote Monte Walsh "you have no idea how little I care." BUT if Neil jones says it, I will consider it. As his reputation is as good as it gets.

You'd be surprised by how much a large diameter case can stretch a standard 7/8-14 die. ;)
So if I'm a die manufacturer, I know this, and will slightly undersize the die in the areas I know it's going to stretch.

But also if I'm a die and press manufacturer, my marketing department says "no, we will create demand for the next thing and lead the way while trying to stay relevant in the reloading world".

Hence the 1" die. Great for .50BMG, no real benefit to .308 et al.

I will invent the 2" die and produce studies showing that it is more rigid (which it would be) and is .0001" standard deviation more consistent than the 1" die. Of course, I'm doing the study of my own stuff...

“Build it and they will come.” I can see some benefit in the bigger cartridges. I’m not going to change my equipment this late in the game.
I bet they have plans to market a new press, soon. Bigger is better for 90% of the men out there.

The original post implies that Redding suggests these new 1” dies will do better at resizing the base of the cartridge, which will reduce clickers:

These dies are also supposed to restore the case body closer to "nominal" spec at the .200 line. As an example, I was told the 1" 300 WM body die would size cases closer to the 0.505" body size instead of the 0.510 size of the standard body die.

That’s a good thing, if true.

Most single stage presses are 1 1/4"-12 with an 7/8"-14 adapter. Remove the 7/8" adapter and insert a 1" adapter. It will be thin, but should work!
l have 2 rcbs presses. a redding t7 and a coax that dont have that option

I've been using a custom 1" Neil Jones full length bushing sizing die for my 300 WAMBOMAG wildcat for over 15 years, he says a 1" die is required for the 338 Lapua class cartridges and he supplied the adapter bushing for my Redding Ultramag press, works great!
Interesting, considering I've been using my Redding 7/8 die set with great success for .338 Lapua.

Hmm, 7/8" dies size to .510, but make 1" dies slightly smaller and state its the die body making it .505"... why not just make 7/8" dies .505"?

Fast,

Redding tech told me the 7/8 dies to do this break too often when they tried it.

It's a .005" difference, so I'm struggling to find the Redding statement to be credible. It's possible, just fairly unlikely.

Anyway, as joshb said, "Bigger is better for 90% of the men out there." So this will sell.
