New project 6mmBR what neck size with lapua brass ? 272

Hi I am about to order a barrel for a single shot hunting rifle
My smith is base in Austria but himself a bench shooter
He is offering me too many choices
I plan to use this for 300m mountain hunting.
105 grain projectile (likely Berger VLD)
1 in 8 twist
Without going to the expense of tight necks and Dasher
which neck size has to least tolorence with the latest lapua brass ?
People that I have asked here in UK tend to gravitate towards a 272 neck is the concenses with you folks over the pond ?
Any other tips or advice you want to share witht the above parameters ?
Thanks

I have just measureed my new batch of Lapua brass loaded with 6mm VLD hunt and it measures 0.269" - I am happy to purchase more of the saem batch to ensure consistency
Does that mean I should order a 269 chamber to have the least tolerence in the chamber ?

Form what I am reading,a .271 neck is ideal for effortless extraction. You may get away with .270 but I would go with .271 . I would go any tighter as a quick follow up shot may be necessary and if it is a little tight then depending on neck thickness you could end up with alittle drag as you extract.Just my .02 cents

Thank you for your adivse

If you are interested it is custom job for a single shot hunting rifle
Blaser K95 a bit like a Ruger No 1

I will now talk to the gunsmith and confirm a 271 neck that will leave me a 0.001 clearance either side of the case loaded

I can live with that as a hunting rifle..............

Go with a .272 neck and don't look back.
Get the Lapua brass, load it up and go shooting.
Make sure you get a short throat chamber so you can jam the bullets of "your choice" and you're done. ;D

I like the 272 for hunting. Things cold get a bit dusty when the wind blows.
Matter of fact, I just bought 500 of the blue box br cases. Looks like I'm gonna need a new reamer or regrind for br work.

I may have one for sale now.

Dave Kiff of PTG has drawings for both the old brass and the new.

You need to get your brass first and measure it. If it is the newer blue box stuff, it will likely measure about 0.2675-0.268" loaded. But you really should buy the brass and check first. If that is the case see the reamer drawing below for the blue box.

If it is the older cardboard box brass then it likely will be about 0.0015" larger loaded. See the other reamer drawing. I use the old brass and my chamber is about 0.2715". It chambers the old brass just fine.

Ron's advice is the best so far. Get the brass first and then decide. My next no turn neck 6BR will probably be .270, but I will buy a bunch of brass next time and order a reamer based on the brass.
