I shoot a .22 caliber 18 grain pellet at around 900 fps. This lets me kill pigeons out to 50 yards easily, and 70 yards if I'm really on my game. That translates to roughly 22 foot-pounds. CCI standard velocity retains that much energy at 700 yards according to my app. The diabolo shape pellet is just so ridiculously inefficient. In this scenario though, that trait becomes an advantage. How do the ballistics of the PCP compare to a subsonic .22?
The other thing to consider, is that sheet metal on a barn roof is often pretty light gauge stuff. Basically just a protective covering and not the actual roof. These bins are pretty thick relatively. It would take a good deal more power to punch through, but a .22 rimfire will no doubt do it.
