New place to shoot Pigeons

Silage fields used to look like that when I was younger with doves, It always opened Labor Day weekend. We would be loading shotgun shells this time of year to get ready. I havent seen a dove this year. What happened to them? Wish they would come back. Warm the barrel up on that shotgun. Doug

I shot some pigeons years ago off the top of a friends hay barn about 275 yds. with my .17 Remington with a 25 gr. hornady hollow point load, nothing but feathers & guts left!

When I picked up a few of the pigeons by their tail feathers, after being shot a clear milky liquid was coming out of their beaks. Anyone know what this is?

Dang, you guys that have areas to shoot are lucky. One of our %^*^%*^ neighbors feeds the damn things! They really make a mess on our patio. To make things worse, our city is a designated "bird sanctuary" city.

Then you should have plenty of burds to shoot...

The air rifles used by Iguana Solutions (YouTube) might be good for roof rats. I've thought about using traps to catch pigeons, then sell them to dog trainers. Nothing works better than using live pigeons to train a retriever puppy. Popcorn and a fish net will get you a lot of dirty looks down town, fun but ya better be quick.

My uncle caught alot of coyotes. He used rotten fish to attract them. My point, I think anything rotten will attract coyotes. Doug

Oh yes! Pigeon Nirvana.

I miss pigeon shooting. In NY they are not protected. Shoot anytime anywhere discharging a firearm is legal. I loved old dairy barns and silos. Especially if the farmer was beyond caring if you were INSIDE the barn.

Moved to PA and the PA Game Commission must be a secretive sect of the Amish. More stupid rules than one could dream up on a bad acid trip. Chipmunks and common pigeon are protected. Two of the biggest nuisance critters in PA, except for John Fetterman. And can't hunt any of them.

You are blessed to get such a place.
snert , hello. Just FYI , pigeons are not protected , they are "domestic fowl" and can be hunted w/o a hunting license any day of the week. Chipmunks are protected , but that's being reviewed by the board. You may have local ordinances that prohibit pigeon shooting OR misinformed LEO's. I have been "hunting" pigeons for years & just in the last few years have moved to PCP air guns . That is some real fun and safer than all rimfire shooting.Try it , you'll be hooked ! PS , you have house sparrows & starlings to add to the mix in accordance to season regulations on those during deer season.

Well that is good news. I was unaware of that. The PA GC should make that a bit more clear in the handbook
