New place to shoot Pigeons

How do the ballistics of the PCP compare to a subsonic .22?
I shoot a .22 caliber 18 grain pellet at around 900 fps. This lets me kill pigeons out to 50 yards easily, and 70 yards if I'm really on my game. That translates to roughly 22 foot-pounds. CCI standard velocity retains that much energy at 700 yards according to my app. The diabolo shape pellet is just so ridiculously inefficient. In this scenario though, that trait becomes an advantage.

The other thing to consider, is that sheet metal on a barn roof is often pretty light gauge stuff. Basically just a protective covering and not the actual roof. These bins are pretty thick relatively. It would take a good deal more power to punch through, but a .22 rimfire will no doubt do it.

When I saw the title, I looked in to see if it was a columbaire or box bird shoot. It has been quite a few years since I participated.

Deployed to in a flight safety office right now and I get to shoot them a couple times a week on the airfield. They keep me busy.

Im from a small town in Mo. When I was a kid the chief of police had a pigeon shoot around town. They had got to thick. I dont know what you had to do to get permission but dad and some of his buddies got to shoot pigeons in town with a shotgun. Just in certain places. Doug
We had church steeple pigeon shoots twice each year in my small town, shotguns. Kids retrieved. Saturday morning, lunch in the basement.

A pellet gun looks like fun, never used on pigeons though. Years ago, early 80's, a friend wanted the pigeons gone from a couple large structures on his Nevada farm. They were crapping all over everything in the maintenance building and barn. He gave me his truck weapon of choice for snakes, a Ruger single six with birdshot, and said get'um all. And I did my best. Those little .22 lr birdshot things worked pretty good at close range. After awhile it got to where I'd walk into the barn and those flying rats had learned to vacate. It was funny.....felt like the old wild west movie bad guy gunslinger who'd walk along, people would see him and go to the other side of the street.
