New one on me

A few days ago a friend asks me if I want a box of .308 ammo since he can’t shoot it in his Springfield Armory M1A. “Huh??” I reply. Then he tells me that the owners manual clearly states that the gun is designed for 7.62x51 only and shooting .308 Winchester ammunition could result in damage or injury.

HUH?

Same reason I never bought the Ishapore 2A1: if I can't shoot factory 308 when I want, what's the point?

I believe that you'll find that they do have different specs. I can't find my drawings at the moment, but my recollection is the military round is more generously dimensioned.

The 308 runs higher pressure but I’ve shot alot of it in my M1A and it runs fine. I think they’re more worried about slam fires causing a round to go off before full battery.......if I remember the factory warning I read 6 years ago.
I think they were also against using reloaded ammo in them, too! Oh well!
