New Long Range Shot

Forum Boss: The spot on the target was observed after 69 shots fired but the controllers are not sure which shot hit in the sequence. I'm not convinced the "hit" was a true direct hit rather than a bounce off a rock etc.

The actual spot does not look like the hits I have seen/made at 2200 yards on steel which tend to have a gray area. but maybe this is a cardboard target? And if you closely it appear something scraped across the target from a low angle. Hmmm... doesn't that suggest a ricochet bouncing up?

The 69th shot. That's not accuracy, that's just lobbing a bullet up and luck that it hits something.

What's to old adage about fools and their money?
I had the same thought.
I guess a question would be, after they are sighted in, how many hits out of, say, 10 do they make?

I also noted they have spotters down range.

I agree, just lobbing in till you get a hit. My friend set an ELR World record in 2019 at 2158 yards. He had no wind spotter and did it with a stock barreled Savage 338 Lapua Magnum. Had to connect with his first cold bore shot followed up by 2 more hits. It has since been beaten a few times but lobbing rounds at a distant target till you finally connect doesn't impress me.

I don't agree or disagree with what they did. I do believe they should have put two more shots on target after they made the first one. I believe that was a big mistake and would have stopped most of these posts. But having shot extreme long range before extreme long range was cool, what they did is no less impressive. My question to you guys is how many of you have ever shot past 2000 yards? How many of you have 50 to 100 grand tied up in your pickup truck. How many of you have 50 to however many thousands of dollars tied up in your drag car, race boat, or even your fishing boat. I guess all I'm saying is to each his own and who are we to bash their accomplishments with absolutely no idea what it took to do it. I have a pretty good idea what it took to do it and it is an accomplishment in it's own right, even though I believe they should have put two more on target.
