Hornady sure is copying alot of designs that have been out for a while. They have enough money to fight the little guy that actually invented the original.

Word would get around quick if they were fighting legal battles over their products. More likely they aren't in violation of patents, patents are expired, or there was no patent protection to begin with.

I agree. The one copied is priced so excessively that folks will buy the Versa Prime. I have a friend that bought the $700 version and he said it was over $1k once you buy the tubes and vibrator to load the primers. Another example of a copied tool is the Prazi Press and its three pillar design. Seems like every manufacture is now selling a version of this press.

was Hornady bought out by some Chinese company? they are copying a few other well know USA brand items.

They been doing it for years. Most of their cartridges appear to be very similar to other rounds. They reinvent the wheel and marketing sells it. This primer tool will still vary seating depth and crush based on the rim thickness variation.

They sure jacked the Henderson trimmer. ARC cartridges are a minor variation of the PPC etc

It sure seems like Hornady’s company mantra is “We may be a great Imitator, but we’ll sue you to maintain the appearance of being an industry-leading Innovator.” I keep waiting to hear how they’ve moved / outsourced their customer service hotline to China so that it’s in same building as their R&D and Manufacturing facility.

I would be thrilled if they would refocus their effort on QC and start manufacturing ammunition with tolerances closer to SAAMI specs.

At 74, I've been reloading since I was a teenager. When I started everyone primed on their press & there were few other options. Then the hand priming tools hit & manufacturers started proliferating these with their own version. I bought into the proclaimed notion, that to be an accurate handloader, you had to develop that "feel" of a properly seated primer - which was only possible to achieve with a low-leverage hand tool.

Now target competition is intense & the distances are mind-blowing! I understand the quest for the ultimate handloading process to build the most precise & repeatable ammo that can be made. An extremely expensive priming tool is well worth the price if it eliminates one more variable of concern & adds confidence to the shooter. Yet when priming, I still here the word "feel" being used. It seems like all the expensive precision tools can't measure or compensate for tightness, depth, pellet-crush, etc. So this all leads us back to the "feel". So once you learn the feel, wouldn't one of those early Lee hand primers be just as good?

I've seen a video from Buffalo bore a while back about hornady doing basically the same thing to him. Don't know what is the truth but seems like they have a history of doing this. I don't have a dog in the fight just an observation.

Been trying out a bunch of priming tools recently. So far my favorite is also the least expensive. The Lyman Accu-Prime added on top of a short Inling fabrication base with changeable tops is fantastic. I too don't mind the slow one at a time priming routine. Lyman tells me my auto feed should be here in November. Looking forward to trying that one. Have tried from the least expensive to the most and many in between. Nice to have time being retarded to play with new toys. No more wrist or elbow pain from loading a couple hundred a day. Whatta Hobby!
