lyman accu-prime auto-load not able to seat primers below flush

Following the thread with interest. Have one of the Lyman Accu-Prime auto feeds on order to see how it compares to other priming tools.
I have been impressed with the Accu Prime manual feed version. Cost and function plus it's adjustable depth deserves a check. No problem getting this version to seat below flush. For under $60. it gets my nod. Whatta Hobby!

Hi all,

I recently got a lyman accu-prime auto-load, and I can't get it to seat primers below flush.

I have a sinclair hand primer and it easily seats primers below flush.

I adjusted the primer punches so they protrude several thousand when the sleeve is compressed, per the user manual. I've tried several different brands of shellholders. I suspect the primer punch isn't centered and is bottoming out on the case head, but I can't figure out any way to verify this.

Anyone else have an accu-prime auto-load and if so, are you seeing the same issue or not?
I don’t understand why Lyman won’t address this. I would buy it if it worked. I set my primers .008 below flush.

I just ordered the last one Bruno’s had.. hopefully it’s a good one..time will tell!

Mine works fine..I had a few that wouldn’t seat below flush when adjusting and happened to notice that the handle that you pull on wasn’t returning all the way back..once I payed attention to that while adjusting the depth it works great now.

I just had one delivered a couple of weeks ago and while I've only primed a couple hundred cases it has worked great, for my old hands it's better than hand held priming tools.
Does anyone know if other brand primer tubes will work with the lyman?

You can call Lyman’s phone number and people there will help you. I have the version that does not auto feed, and I have no problems with it. I cannot comprehend what might be causing the problems you’re having, but I don’t doubt you’re having them. Just seems strange that when you pull the handle with no primer or case involved, you are getting adequate protrusion. But when there is a case and a primer involved, it stops at flush. Really don’t understand how that could happen. I’m interested to learn more.

i called lyman and they said they had gotten calls about this problem so they are aware of it.

they sent me replacement primer punches to try to fix the problem... it didn't.

i did a bunch of testing and large primers will easily seat below flush on my lapua 260 remington brass.

it won't seat small primers below flush on either 223 or 6 dasher brass.

i think if there's even a microscopic misalignment between the brass and the punch, the punch bottoms out on the case head. the shellholder has a bunch of slop holding the cartridge, and then there's the slop between the lyman press and the shellholder.

i'm thinking of adding a bevel to the small primer punch.
