new heart valve

I am glad that you have had a successful procedure. I have a bad aortic valve and my mitral valve isn’t so great either. But my injection fraction at 40-45 is not bad enough yet, so they say, to do the procedure by an artery as you stated. Also my heart calcium is 1600 and according to their criteria, it would have to be above 2100 to be considered for a valve replacement. So I just have periodic echocardiograms and a cardiac cath. I get out of breath sometimes and have trouble standing up and walking. I just hope they can do the procedure sometime in the future before the condition kills me. In other words, it’s congestive heart failure.
You have to hang in there. I was wondering why I had to wait so long when I felt I needed one , two years ago, and I was just told a couple days ago that the reason I waited longer was so the valve would last longer. Now that I have a new one that sounds better. As long as they keep checking you, they can stay ahead of it we hope. Otherwise, if you have to go to the emergency room because it's that bad, then they will do it. I seems like no matter what you say, unless it's really bad or you get to the hospital in an ambulance, you just have to wait. The last thing I want is for family to take care of me when I can be fixed to take care of them.

I had mine done in 2000 split me open and installed a titanium valve. I have been on warfin ever since. Now I have an aneurysm right up against the valve that measures 5.5 and will need to fix it in the future. I want to replace my valve when we do this but this is a very risky operation. Ps I am scared or I would do it tomorrow I know I am chicken. Lots of things can go wrong I am glad yours went well.

I got a new aortic heart valve on Tues and came home yesterday. They have come a long way and are getting better all the time. A borescope device went up one leg through my artery and the new valve went up my left leg through my other artery They come in four sizes depending on how large your femoral artery is. So you don't worry about getting a new aortic valve if you need one. They also last longer now. I waited 2 years for one, so I really needed one, I could not think straight sometimes due to a lack of O2, but they wanted to wait for as long as I good manage until it became severe. I never thought I would feel this good again. Thanks to the Man upstairs. I'm blessed it went so well. I definitely don't feel like I'm 78 anymore.
Steve -

All praise to God Almighty, for restoring you to good health !

Great news, and we are happy for you !

What a Christmas !

congradulations it went well for you. my dad got one of those in 2011 when he was 84 or so. he was in a clinical trial for them. it was amazing he walked out in a few days with his walker. he is gone now but the new valve was working good and he passed from pneumonia. hang in there and good luck

Very sorry to hear about the complications. When I read all the things that could go wrong with what I needed, I was also scared even though it was far less risky than what you need. I felt that the way I was going, at some point my wife would need to take care of me and I did not want that to happen when there is already so much to do with the horses and everything that goes with them. So I figured it was a win, win to have my valve fixed. If it worked, I was not a burden and if I died, she would not have to take care of me. Just have to trust what the good Lord has planned for us and have faith that the Doctors are on the same page. What else can we do? MY prayers are with you though.

I'm glad everything worked out good for you. But anything to do with the heart is still a crap shoot. I had a valve replacement and double bypass, and was fine. But a year ago, my sister died on the table getting a TAVR. So, I guess shit happens. What gets me is that the TAVR is supposed to be next to no risk compared to full on open heart surgery.

To that point, I have a Thoracic Aortal Aneurysm and I’m doing everything I can to keep it in check, so that intervention isn’t required. I’ve changed my diet, lost 35 pounds, and use a CPAP now. My blood pressure is good and I feel better than I have in years. My 1 year CT Scan just came back showing it unchanged, so the doctors say I’ve just gotta keep doing what I’m doing for now. I’ll get another CT Scan in a year.

2019 I had a Mitral repair, 8 months later they replaced it first one they went in through the side second time around cracked me open. Then they did an ablation because I had over 20,000 extra heart beats a day. when I told my brother about the extra heart beats he responded with. (what were you doing watching porn). Anyway it seems Heart operations are pretty routine but not without risks. I was never worried about it or nervous, like I told my wife, if something goes wrong I won't know about it anyway. Glad your doing good.

Aortic replaced in 1994, Mitral replace in 2014 both mechanical
So I have a double “clicking” sound . I got the life time warranty lol.
You’re going to feel like a teenager again. Best of luck

Thanks, my doctor just looks at me and smiles when he says the same thing. I've been a little hesitant to see what I can do but decided to get in my truck and go for a ride. I have to jump up into the seat did not want to strain my groin but just vaulted up into my seat like never before. I really feel stronger with all the extra O2 in my blood if that makes sense. I'm really looking forward to working up a sweat.

You'll love rehab then! LOL

No I'm not on anything and no rehab. I have always taken aspirin for pain management though. I was told to do what I always do but don't strain myself. No throwing bales of hay around and leave the 8# maul alone for a couple of weeks. I just walk in the mountains a little further each day and do a little more each day as far as my chores go. We heat our home with wood so I made sure I had all the wood I needed for a couple of weeks ready. It's been 6 days and I never felt better. My wife has been doing all the hard work.

Got the ones off of my neck where they had a wire into neck to my heart in case my heart stopped, but they did not need it and took the wire out the next day
Fun fact: that pacing wire was used to rapid pace your heart when the valve balloon got inflated, essentially stopping it briefly. Unnerving the first time you see it!

Glad to hear. God is good. Obamacare ... not so much.

Congratulations on the successful surgery, that is great to hear.

My wife is 34 yrs old, she has a connective tissue disorder called Marfan Syndrome. Because of this she has a mitral valve prolapse with regurgitation, and will eventually need a new valve. We're keeping our fingers crossed that there are more advances and by the time she needs a new valve the replacement will last even longer than they do now. We've been told that once she has a replacement, it'll likely only last about 10 years.

Great news.
The advances made in modern preventive medicine are mind boggling.
Good luck with your recovery.
Yeah, it is amazing what they are doing with that alien technology. You know, few people know that back in 1947 when the aliens landed, President Truman told them..."look, you give us your technology, and we'll give you all the cow lips you want." LOL.
