New guy introduction...

JGSprecision

Site $$ Sponsor
Well after years of hearing the wonders of this forum I decided I'd join up.
I've worked at JGS Precision well before I should have been working.
In middle school I was designing JGS catalogs.
In high school I was learning "Virtual Gibbs" (now Gibbs Cam).
First my SHOT Show was 1996 (at 16).
Fast-forward to 2021, my father Ken had an accident and had to retire so now I'm doing my best to steer production and keep our family business moving forward.
Like many in the 2020s I've been spending most of my spare time doing gun-hobby stuff. I've inherited a ton of generational gear so a lot of it is based around repurposing the family horde. I do a fare amount of "product testing" making a barrel here and there, a wild cat here and there. More of a maker than a shooter but trying to get out and shoot more.

As sponsor I'm here the help, as gun hobby guy I'm here to share my random rifle projects, give my 2 cents and good advice is welcome.

I might have talked to you Monday. I was looking for 257 Bob reamer, but the flood gave everyone else a reason to stay home. This is a great forum and JGS has a great reputation here. Welcome in and look forward to your insight.

Nice to have you here...your company has a great reputation for consistent quality and customer service. I'm a happy customer. :)

Good shootin' -Al

Nice to hear you speaking up! We love having toolmakers giving input and sharing experiences! Good to have you posting! Welcome!

Welcome to the forum!!

I would have loved to have learned Gibbs Cam when I was in highschool!
I'm 58 now and am finally at a shop that uses it, so I'm just starting to learn it.
Now if I could just remember to turn the through spindle coolant on at the computer instead of having to stop the machine and edit it there.

Welcome and thanks for joining. I bought my first reamer from JGS two years ago. The lady that helped me was awesome. I don't remember her name at the moment. My next reamer will be from JGS. Keep up the quality please.

This forum always welcomes expertise.
I wish I was an expert but most of my knowledge comes from watching Jim and Ken (granddad and father) run JGS production.
I had actually never chambered a barrel until he had his accident, but with everything I had watched and all the hours I had spent on manual lathes making various stuff- it was the easy button. He had this acra tool room lathe all setup...
Already had a tru-set chuck so I added a "spider" on the other side (he was just reaming barrel stubs) and its been a good chambering lathe. Also me being me (I tend to load stuff up with tech) I added a 1 micron linear glass scale to the turret.
I have another old 1440 sized Taiwan lathe I inherited that will be the full package, installed a full dro system including tail stock feed scale. Converted the tail stock to lever (I like the feel and retraction speed). It has a great thread selection , one of the original Jim's Gun Shop lathes ( or from that era).

So I'll be posting some projects here and there as well, in someways I'm still the FNG.
