I’m always keen on new stuff and I do like Garmin. But… I don’t see $700 worth of improvement over my C1 Garmin. I’m quite happy with what I have.

Hey Fellers, been reading everything that I can find online about the new C2 and cannot find out if the handgun setting will allow 0 to 5000 fps like they say or they break it up around 1700 like they do on the on the C1. I've been doing a lot of handgun caliber carbine testing between 12 and 24 hundred fps and the Ç1 drives me nuts having to go from handgun to rifle at 1700 because a lot of the rifle cartridges live right in the middle of the range. My number two son borrowed my C1 last week (which means I have probably seen the last of it) and was thinking about replacing it with the C2, IF it will work in the handgun mode up to at least 2500fps, if not I'll just get another C1 because it's perfect except for the break at 1700....... John

So far, with what I've seen, doesn't seem as though they did much in the way of any big improvements that I'd get too excited about.

Interesting. I would have thought they'd endeavour to address some of the shortcomings of the 'old' one. For example, calculation of ballistic coefficient, micro SD card to make data transfer easier. I'm still leaning towards the LabRadar LX.

BCs calculated at such a short range are neither really representative nor especially useful from a physics standpoint.

Drag models assume steady-state flow and velocity-dependent drag behavior, but at very short distances the projectile is still transitioning through complex aerodynamic regimes (muzzle blast interaction, yaw of repose settling, transient Mach effects, etc.). Small measurement errors in velocity over a short baseline also get amplified when back-calculating BC, which can make the result look precise while actually being less accurate.

Short-range measurements are still very useful for true muzzle velocity and consistency they’re just not ideal for meaningful BC determination, and can lead to bad ballistic predictions if the shortcomings are not fully understood. They are very popular for marketing reasons, but their is a reason you are much better off using long range averaged BCs and even some companies that market their short range BCs on the box publish the long range BCs for ballistic predictions on their website.

If your buddy will join you do you have to flip a coin to see which of you will be putting your Garmin down range..??
It will be a very expensive day with a misplaced shot…

What about getting data from the unit to your computer?

IF YOU HAVE A GARMIN: You use the Shotview app from your phone that is paired with device. Select the session/sessions, click the 3 dots in upper right hand corner, select export to CSV or Excel. Then you can email the file to yourself and open on computer. If you select multiple sessions and Excel, you'll get a file with a tab for each session.

Just remember that if you have a varying wind component that might effect normal drop, the calculated BC is only good for that day, that condition.

I am NOT Tec savvy. My last crono was a Pact bought sometime in the 90s. I picked up the C1 in early December and I couldn't be happier with it.
My house computer was in early 2000s updated in October last year.
I am not one to have the latest version every time something gets an update.
The C1 does everything I need.
I think I will wait (maybe) until they make one that tracks full range (distance) ballistics (velocity, max ord, bc, spin drift, drops, and windage) from muzzle to whatever distance.
