New Factory Cz 457 varmint

Picked up a cz 457 varmint to shoot a few factory class ara matches up the road. I have been out of shooting a few years now so lots of rust to knock off im sure. Trigger upgrade is the first order of business for sure. Then test ammo and learn to shoot. Hope the barrel lottery was good to me....

I don't compete, but my CZs definitely seem to prefer SK over Eley and RWS. However, each rifle is an individual so you should try whatever you can get your hands on. If you find a brand and particular lot that your rifle likes, buy all of that lot that you can. There's an ammo lot lottery, similar to the barrel lottery. Some lots are better than others. I've had a few lots of SK Std + (less costly) that have shot better than some lots of SK Rifle Match (more costly).

All my 457's Love SK Std. Tac22 not bad. Rim Fire Central is CZ 457 Heaven.
Spring Job for Trigger at Rim Fire get the Spring and down load info.
Action Screws you need a torque wrench in. lb. set at 25-35 to get the best groups.
DIP scope Base keep it low to center.

I believe you are really going to enjoy yourself. ARA is addictive and challenging. I started last year in March. I have a CZ457 Varmint that I shoot most of the time. It will holds its own on most days. I'm far from being a upper tier competitor but than most of the time I'm shooting less than good match ammo. Yes , from what I've seen a trigger spring, good ammo, hold off for your condition, and good form and finding out what works best for you.....and then you'll have something going.
It's no different than any if the other shooting disciplines...have fun and enjoy yourself.

JARD trigger is the first step!

I had a hour or so to put scope on and shoot this Cz . Trigger is still factory and pretty heavy (gonna try spring kit this week). It hates both lots of Eley match I have. I cleaned and tried some center x I had before shooting light disappeared. Here is the center x target , I am very rusty as a shooter and need much practice , I hope to remedy that this year. I need to get some factory targets and practice, practice, practice. Shot these off a bipod , my rest I have is for a 3 inch flat Benchrest stock so I may need to get something for this factory forearm. Work in progress.....

The Timney gets good reviews.

Mine loves center-x. Good luck, seems like you won the “barrel lottery”.

So those are decent groups for a factory gun starting out?? I honestly don’t know what to expect since I haven’t been to a factory match yet, I do know when shooting multiple bulls the shooter has to do their part as far as wind calls. First match close to me is March, gotta get busy!

My 457 MTR hates an older lot of C-X, +-3" patterns at 50 yards. A new lot from 2024 is one ragged hole at 50 if I do my part. It does shoot several different lots of SK Match pretty well, and SK Long Range very well. I used up the last 2 boxes of that old C-X last Saturday. Good riddance.

I don’t have a 457 but my 453V wasn’t very impressive until I’d fired a few hundred rounds of ammo and then finally found some that it really likes. I’d say those are fine for just trying out a few different rounds in a new rifle. My 453 was also sensitive to action torque, which I didn’t realize until many rounds down the road!

My 457 Varmint has the Yo-Dave trigger spring an it breaks at 14 oz. according to my gunsmith's Lyman Digital Trigger Gage. My rifle shoots it's best with RWS R-50, which is unobtainable currently. It also shoots 10X almost as good. Less expensive ammunition can not compete with those two. I haven't tried any high end Lapua, but some of my other rifles love Midas+ and Center X. YMMV. Attached is the best 100 yard group I ever fired with this rifle. That is not indicative of how it shoot most of the time but sub 1" groups are common at 100 yards and sub 0.5" groups at 50 yards. Good luck, and favor center.

Installed a pin/spring kit in trigger I picked up from a “friend “...... super improvement over what it was. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to shoot a few this evening if I am able after having the 2 year old grandson all day..whew the energy!
