New Carbon Remover

When I was in Korea, a Squad Leader in another Platoon had his guys use Easy Off on their M-16's, took the blueing off. Yep, the CO made the pay for the cost of reblueing.

I stumbled upon posts on another forum about using CLR as a bore cleaner....yes Calcium Like Rust bathroom cleaner....

I'm no expert and could be completely wrong ...but probably best to leave kitchen and bathroom cleaners in the kitchen and bathroom.

I'm all for saving cash and using stuff that WORKS well. I've found a lot of different things in life are sold at a premium to the shooting or hunting or fishing etc etc world. But I know if a chemical is too strong, it can definitely ruin metal....

I used a bucket of regular old vinegar to clean a bucket file of old files that looked like scrap. Not only did it clean them...it sharpens them because the metal is being etched by the acid...and vinegar is a relatively weak acid....and it doesn't take real long...

Which taught me I should be VERY sure I get solvents of any kind out of my bores when I'm done cleaning.

CLR does NOT remove carbon from my flash arrestor. 3 x 24 hours immersion. Fresh cleaner each morning. Just a little came off. Not alot.

FYI. I've run several 'experiments' with CLR. My net is that it cleans carbon about as well as Bore Tech C4 or Eliminator. Definitely not better, might be a little less effective.

When used on a barrel that has been shot, the initial patches do come out very black - visually it looks like it is getting out more than C4 or Eliminator. BUT.. it takes as many, maybe more, patches before the carbon is all gone.

I find just the opposite. I've been using Cu4
For years. I also run Tbac Suppressors on quite a few rifles. Thunderbeast will clean your can for free once a year. At a match years ago I was talking to Zach from Thunderbeast about sending one in. He said they use CLR. Got myself an ultrasonic cleaner and do mine every 500-1000 rounds now. Started experimenting with it on old barrels and was amazed at the results. I'm not saying it magically makes the carbon disappear. But I've proven it makes 1/2 the time and effort to get it off. Confirmed with a Hawkeye. Try a wet CLR wet patch on the crown after pulling a Suppressor or Brake off and see for yourself. As far as hurting a Stainless barrel. I cut sections of a dead barrel and submerged for a week. I saw no pitting. To each their own.

Interesting how some stories come out. M16's ???? Blueing removed ???? Check out the facts on what and where. Funny however.

Here we go with another "this is what I do"
To answer the op. No I haven't. I don't really need another cleaner. One that may ruin the finish of my stock, bedding or barrel scares the bejeebbess outta me !

So they use clr in an ultrasonic? Have you tried simple green in an ultrasonic? It cleans hard carbon off very quickly. I can put 6 very carboned up 2 stroke pistons in there and one 60min cycle they look new

I wonder why. It has taken it of of my muzzle brakes easily. Hard baked on carbon. It doesn't take long either, wipe it off with your fingers easily. Removes it inside and out.
