New Carbon Remover

When i worked in a water bottling facility back in college we used nitric acid to clean every surface that transported or held water. Maybe somebody should try that because it sure did work good there.

The best carbon solvent I have found is Berrymans Chemtool Carburator dip in 1 gallon can with a small plastic dip tray.. 1 hour soak for AR bolts that customers never seem to clean and a little brushing and amazing results

Before, soak, after. Fresh CLR, 24 hr soak, toothbrush, repeat. 3 soaks at 24 hours. Some came off, remainder still pretty tight. I gave up.
Jealous it works for you lol.

Next time, try a somewhat concentrated solution of Lemi Shine in hot water. I tried several thing on my brake, including CLR and has similar results. Then a thought occurred to me that I had Lemi Shine that I use in wet tumbling brass. So, I filled a small glass jar half full of hot water and stirred in a heaping spoonful of Lemi Shine. Then I set my break in and I could see a chemical reaction of fizz/bubbles happening right away. After ~ 10 minutes all the black carbon had sluffed off to the bottom of the jar and all that was left was a thin film of carbon which easily wipes away. I tried this on a SS break of mine and it worked even better. Then I dipped the muzzle of my SS barrel into the solution and the carbon build up on the tip of the end of the muzzle came of with ease.

It's surprising no one else around here had tried this . . .???

I haven't yet figure if soaking the area of a carbon ring will work well. So, I'll have to experiment and see what might be done.

The cleaning action in the Ultrasonic really cant be compared to just using any chemical alone or just soapy water. It is vibrating the hard carbon build up and the steel at different rates hence the bond breaks and it just cracks of like pealing paint in the sun.
