New bullet coming from David Tubb with a G1 BC of .620

Excuse me if this has already been posted elsewhere

Was just looking at David Tubb's Facebook page and found the following post

"To clear up the rumors: I'm working on a new bullet. In the meantime, I still have DTAC 115s. Working on updating the website now because it says we are out of stock. Call 806-323-9488 to place an order for DTAC 115s if you need more. The new bullet is an improvement on the old bullet but is the same weight. New 115 bullet will be ready within the next 3 months.

Our tests reveal approximately 8% improvement in BC. The new 115 will be just as friendly of a bullet as the current 115. When the current 115s are gone the new 115 will be replacing it because it shoots better."

He states that it will stabilize in an 1:8 twist or faster barrel and has a G1 BC of .620 !!!

Present DTAC 115s have a G1 BC of approx. .585. Most folks work with a .300 G7 also.

8% would be 0.632, 0.620 is only 6%

Good news though. Either is still higher than a 140 Hybrid and with some of the new powders, even the small 6s can push those pretty fast.

I'm guessing it will fall short. Using 115 grains for mass and .92 for a G7 form factor, one gets .300 for a G7 BC or .585 for G1. While a good BC no doubt, the .620 value doesn't pencil.

Might want to give DT and Sierra a call and tell them they don't know what they are doing and are just wasting their time. And after the laughing subsides................

As is so often the case on this forum and on others. There are those that would rather turn an academic discussion into a personal attack or pissing contest. I'll have no part of it. My response to the OP is one based upon calculation of sectional density which is fixed by the bullet weight of 115 grains. The G7 form factor of .92 is about as low as can be practically achieved in 6mm. Now, if it turns out to be a significantly longer bullet, needing say a 6.5" twist rate, then the .620 G1 value I believe is reasonable. However, the 105 Hybrid bullet has been carefully developed to maximize BC in 6mm in that weight class. It is hard to imagine that the form can be improved upon by more than one or two percent if that. All said, BC isn't everything. Bob Cauterucio and Randy Robinett both make some of the most consistent bullets on the planet. People who chase BC typically don't know of their fine projectiles.

Sparker I'm with you I don't care about BC, G1, G7. Your rifle will let you know what it likes. When a new bullet comes out everyone wants to get some, well if your rifle doesn't like them what do you do change the barrel. Buy a 100 first and try them.

I've got some and shot them. I got a 291 g7 with actual drops. They were supposed to be further tweaking it which should have added some bc.

Finally some intelligence!

I do not chase BC either. To me, price, consistency and availability are first order facts. I really could care less what BC is ( to a degree, of course)so it becomes second order. Every bullet will drop and at 1000 yd more than 600 yd. Wind will make them drift as well. It is my responsibility as trigger puller to account for wind drift. If my bullets are very consistent, I am left with only one prime factor, my wind reading ability!

I have shot a lot of DTAC's since they have been out. He has improved on then by pointing them, though they are far from perfect. Whatever he is doing now for improvement I am sure will make a slight difference, not as much as claimed, but a difference no less. I do like bc, but it has to be accurate also to the game I am shooting. I do not trim and point anything. My .308 ftr is Berger 185 Juggernaut's out of the box. My tac rifle 6mm Competition Match is the 115 DTAC out of the box.
