New bullet coming from David Tubb with a G1 BC of .620

I called about 6-7 weeks ago and placed an order. It has not been charged to my CC as of last statement which is good biz.
When speaking to a very personable fellow, he gave me a very soft timeline of "we hope for abt 2 wks". He was just repeating the last info he was given. Tuff spot to be in.

Ordered my 1st 500 of the new Hbn coated RB DTACs today and it looks like they have already been shipped and should be here in a couple of days. Woo Hoo !!

Mine shipped Monday, yay! The person I talked to said the oal is about .050" longer and the bearing length is slightly longer, also they like to be .005"-.015" off the lands. And to expect slightly slower speeds due to the longer bearing length.

"To clear up the rumors: I'm working on a new bullet. In the meantime, I still have DTAC 115s. Working on updating the website now because it says we are out of stock. Call 806-323-9488 to place an order for DTAC 115s if you need more. The new bullet is an improvement on the old bullet but is the same weight. New 115 bullet will be ready within the next 3 months.

Our tests reveal approximately 8% improvement in BC. The new 115 will be just as friendly of a bullet as the current 115. When the current 115s are gone the new 115 will be replacing it because it shoots better."

He states that it will stabilize in an 1:8 twist or faster barrel and has a G1 BC of .620 !!!

Present DTAC 115s have a G1 BC of approx. .585.

My 6.5 / 141.5 gr VLD has a .662 G1 BC so I'm told

Came up to the house and found that Big Brown had dropped off a box ea of HBN and vanilla's.......happy am I.

Had a question for those of you that received your batch of the new DTAC's. A while back I ordered a batch of HBN powder from Tubb and they sent along a sample bullet of their new DTAC's. I compared them to the current "old" DTAC's I had been using. Bearing surface was a little shorter on the new bullet but weight and length were identical. Sweet! Take my money!

Fast forward my box of the new bullets and I'm finding that these are about .046" longer and the rebated boat tail is almost non-existent. To the point of not being able to see it, though you can feel it with your finger nail.





My initial impression is that I'm disappointed about the longer length as my barrel is a 1:7.7" twist and it doesn't look like this is fast enough to fully stabilize the longer bullet (basically nullifies the improved BC of the new bullet). I'm neutral on the lack of the defined rebated boat tail (like what was shown on the sample) as I've was skeptical on how much it would really affect bullet performance and barrel life.

Just thought I'd put this out there and see if other people are noticing the same thing.

The rebate transition on many of my lapua samples is quite gentle in shape. Lapua has been making a rebated boattail in several calibers for a long time.

Wish I was able to go back and edit my previous post. I was hasty in my critique of the new DTAC's, I should have put some downrange first. Loaded up 5 rounds w/ 43.4gn of N165 (go to for the previous generation of DTAC's @ 2883fps) and after a couple of fouler shots I had a nice .45" group (tested at 100yds), which for my RPR with a factory barrel is pretty good.

I'll probably be putting in another order of 500 as these are shooting great for me so far. Thanks @DTubb !

So after shooting the new 115 DTAC RBT (rebated boattail) for several hundred shots I have come to a conclusion that most will not be able to comprehend.
I happened on to this by accident/ idiotacy..

I have been trying to get H4831 to do well in a 6XC chambering. I have had no luck despite several of my friends that have.

I went and made the effort to change back to H4350 and somehow inadverantly charged my H4350 load with the previous H4831 powder volume 42.3grains.

Since I was shooting over a chronograph and always looking to check out the prototype rifle (for pressure signs/issues) I decided to shoot the (what I considered) overcharded powder amount. (42.3gr of H4350)

To my surprise the magneto chronograph showed a 3227 fps bullet velocity.

I opened the prototype TUBBGUN action with ease and had virtually no brass flow into the ejector plungers (2 in the bolt face this TUBBGUN).

So I loaded up a few more and with the rifle (30" Schneider) and my specific chamber with the RBT bullet and so I am now shooting 3200 fps velocity and the rifle shoots as well ( or better) as my 3025 fps load.

So not only do I get a 6% better bullet (DTAC 115 RBT) but I now am able to achieve a 7% better velocity..

It is not often that you get to have your cake and eat it too....

DTubb that is interesting and super fast..What barrel length?
I have been working with RL26 and a CCI BR2 primer(seems better with this powder) In the 6XC for close to a year about as soon as I could get the RL26.. shooting a 1-7 twist with a Berger 115 HVLD I have been able to get 3,100 FPS out of a 26" barrel with aprox 1/4 moa accuracy or even slightly better.. Seems to shoot very well.. I would like to see someone else try it and see how it works for them...down the road here soon I will be after some of the 115 DTAC's.
My load is 43.5grs RL26..But I have loaded it to 45.0grs and showed slight pressure at 3,150 FPS.

David - What market are you targeting for your new gun ? A 30" barrel seems pretty long for an XTC or PRS gun.
