New brass load development?

Been doing load development with new brass, what can i expect with the now once fired brass?
Need to add a 10Th or 2? Just wondering. I am using new Lapua 308
standard and Palma.
Thanks
John H.

John,
Just out of curiosity, what bullet are you shooting and what distance(s) are you loading for? As you probably know, each rifle/setup is different and therefore the results will differ. Personally, I just had a barrel change done on my Ruger 308 and I just fireformed a new group of 20 Lapua casings. I'm doing it mostly because the rifle has a new Benchrest stock as well and the barrel is a Hart MG. This particular rifle shot extremely well using 42 gr of RE15 or Varget at 100 yds. I am therefore using this same load on the next testing for bullet seating depth and I'm shooting Sierra Match 168 Gr HPBT bullets. If I'm understanding you question correctly, I'd start with your best previous powder load and see what that gets you. For fun, you might try to increase by .2 and then decrease by .2 and see if theres any difference. Of course, always be mindful of pressure signs. But overall, I wouldn't expect to see much of a change if you had been using Lapua brass previously. If not, then go to the basic powder load recommended by the bullet manufacturer and go from there. Now if you are using Vhita Vuori Powders, then go by the Vhita Vuori manual recommendations and see where that takes you. Just my thoughts. Good Luck and have fun.

I started with 300 new Lapua firing all of them before starting the 2nd round of loading and so on. After each series I don't think there ever was any noticeable change. One thing I do is after every 300-400 rounds I check the setting depth at .003 changes to a +/- .012 up and down from where I started just to stay in touch with the rifle changes. Doing the same thing with W-W brass right now

With a good load and rifle it won't make much difference at all. I have a 30x44 that shoots groups in the .3s while fire forming the brass after pushing the shoulder of a 6.5X47 Lapua back 4MM, cutting down to size, and necking up. In good conditions of course.
If it's windy I can't shoot that good anyway.

I am shooting Sierra Match 175 and 168 Gr HPBT At 500 M for now.
When the weather gets better I,ll load some the same and try a few
bumped up .1 tenth at a time and see what happens.

John,
Thx for the reply. From all my experiences and readings, that Sierra 175 should serve you well. Personally, I haven't shot beyond 100 yds in many years as my eyesight is no longer what it once was and I would need a large magnification scope to even see the darn bullseye. But back to your load development, don't forget to see what results you get with bullet seating depths as well. Funny thing with my .308 that was just finished in that before, it hated the bullets set to jam and loved the jump, but now with this new MG barrel and throating, she loves the jams and puts together very nice groups and with the old settings the groups tend to open up a bit which is not what I seek. So good luck and give a hollar if I can be of assistance in terms of ideas or thing to improve your score. I don't claim to know it all, but have been fortunate to have been exposed to several good and useful methods taught to me by some really gifted shooters.
