NEW Bat action coming out today

So I’m just a rifle shooter, I have no clue of the inner workings of an action other than how to change out a firing pin spring. It sure seems like they’re a lot alike from just looking at them with an unknowledgeable eye.

Aluminum with steel inserts.
Push feed 2 lug.
Integrated recoil lug and scope rail.
Coned bolt.
Single shot.
Looks like a trigger hanger and flat bottom?

I guess the ejectors are different? What makes them totally different I guess is my question?
At the most basic level every action we use in BR has many similarities. 2 lugs, coned bolts, trigger hangers, the list goes on.
The design is how they differ. I wouldnt compare this to a Panda or Viper, Id compare it to a Nuevo. It actually has more in common with a 3 lug Bat than a Panda or Viper. Thats kind of how I look at Nuevo's they incorporate most of the things I like about a 3 lug but have a 90 degree bolt so you can time them and they still open nice. The Panda and Viper are based off of the Remington 700 design. Thats not a bad thing. The Nuevo is not, its quite different.

I will wait a year or two to see if it’s worth the money. Not doubting, but should be proven. The standard BAT B and M are tough to beat. Ultimately, Mother Nature has the day. BAT’s actions are tough to beat. I personally think that it comes down to barrels and bullets. Let the aggs and records dictate. Just my opinion.

Your right, always good to wait and see on new stuff. But I can tell you the action is as important as the bullets and barrels. I have fixed so many average rifles by doing minor work to the action. I will continue to say the action is the most important part of the whole rifle. Thats what separates the record breakers from the pack.

Excuse the dumb question from someone who is not a gunsmith or a machinist but how is the steel insert secured into the aluminum action? Someone mentioned pressed in, is that correct? I am having a hard time understanding how that would be manufactured. it sure looks like a very nice piece.

Curious myself. Cryo shrink interference? Brute force press? Keyed, dowel etc?

The original Stolle Panda and the Stiller Viper had the insert screwed in and locked. From what I had always heard, the Panda insert was screwed in tight, then finished with the rest of the action. The Stiller was all finished machined separate and then torqued into place and clocked correctly.

keep in mind, the aluminum part of the action sees zero pressure upon firing. All of the pressure upon ignition is contained within the Alloy Steel Insert.

I have always believed that the most accurate custom action out of the box is a Stolle Panda. They got it right from the beginning.

If this action has the same bolt and the same lug abutments, why do you think making out of aluminum will make it better? The only thing that comes to my simple mind is harmonics? I don't believe that i have ever seen a Panda the shot bad, Ive seen them out of tune but thats different.

When a round is chambered and is concentric to the bore. Nothing more matters. I don’t see how this is anything different than a solid steel action, other than weight. Once the trigger is tapped, it’s all bullet, Mother Nature, owner and barrel. The drop port has no advantage other than placing a solo cup under to catch brass. If ignition is the benefit than that should be the selling point. I just don’t see how it is going to increase my overall groups and aggs. I’m not bashing, have the utmost respect for all, just don’t understand the benefits. Maybe more explanation as to the advantage is needed.

Every time the harmonics go through another material they loose energy. Also, we all know that the trigger lifts the rear of the bolt. Once its released and pressure builds, the bolt body slams against the action body. My guess is the aluminum actions ad less harmonics.
