new barrel needed advice on price

Maybe not the place to post.

Looking for a place to get a new barrel for my savage mod 10..
Not looking to pay top dollars...Called Shaw and he only useing one twist rate so he is of no help....I would like a heavy barrel in 22-250 with a 1 in 8 twist NOT the
1 in 12....So if you know of a place that is good, please let meknow.....John

Hit up Jim at NSS (vendor) on the savageshooters site & see if he can make you one from his selections.

Here is Nss phone number: 1-763-682-4296 I by his mcgowen barrels, they shoot real good.

I've got both Shilen and Criterion select match "prefit" barrels from Jim at Northland Shooters Supply. The Criterion shoots very well and is considerably less than Shilen. Your call on which barrel.

Called and spoke with Jim,,,,He had what I wanted in stock,I was surprised..he did.
Ordered the shilen in 22 250 bull barrel...Decided against the Ackley Improved..You don'tgain much...Also got the 26 inch in 9 twist....Should have it next week..Also go the barrel and action wrench as well as heavy recoil lug....Can;t wait, like a kid waiting for santa..Thanks for the info...John

I just odered my Savage 10 barrel from Jim @ NSS and amazing guy and got the last Shilen barrel he had on shelf in what I was looking for and it is awesome. You will love it. I too also got the heavy recoil lug. Best group from factory sporter 22" barrel was probably just under MOA @100. Now the smallest shot with new barrel was in the .2 MOA area

what method did you use for the break in ? I shot mine today for the first time.
Started right out at 250 yards which is what we shoot for the f class match.
Fired 1 and cleaned-done this 5 times..so =5 cleanings
fired 2 and did the same. And fired 3 and did the same...Making sure to let the
barrel get cold..
Then went to 5 shots and cleaned until patch came out white.
And then another 5 and came home.. 25 shots in all....I think I amgonna like
this new heavy barrel,,,,22-250 cal with 69 grain SMK....
I don't know if I should go through this process again or what....So far from what I have
seen it is gonna be a damn good shooter..I had one 5 shot group in about a 3/4 inch
at 250 using reloader 15 powder.. It is kind of a odd looking thing with the stainless
barrel on the camo action..But as long as it shoots,I don't give a damn...

If it was me breaking in the barrel, unless there is a lot of copper still coming out of the barrel, I would call it good and start cleaning as I normally do. If you are getting a lot of copper out of the barrel at this point, you may have a problem with the barrel.

copper...what copper.....aint go no stinkin copper....looks good to me...time to do some serious load testing now...from what I have seen so far the reloader 15 is good..Had 5 in 1/2 at 250.....will try it again when not working..
