New Action ~1K Budget

Kelbly's told me that their actions are setup for 30% cock on close as a compromise for easy opening and easy closing. They wanted .240" of pinfall. With the Atlas, they do have hanger variations to change things around.

I've had TT diamond and a Jewell on an Origin. Works fine.

I have the TT Diamond on my Origin, the timing hasn't been corrected. I would say the cock on close is probably 30%. My ARC Nucleus is almost 0, I have a TT Primary on it. Zermatt was offering recutting the cocking piece and correcting the pin fall for $50.00 at one time. They still may do this, I know they were over welmed with it at one time, seeing how everyone wanted no cock on close.

Very similar to the Origin and Zermatt.

I'm not sure where you heard that from because I purchased one from Kelby's for my 300 Norma Imp. I'm not sure who I talked with on the phone there, but when I called them they said no problem and sent me one right out.
Can’t remember his name but I called Kelbys direct. That bolt stop is the worst. I’ll try calling them again today. Maybe I misunderstood and they were saying the spring stops were out of stock.

Seem there is lot of discussion about how the budget actions are not custom actions.

Thereby negating the requirement of it being a "budget action' and not a "custom action".

If someone can make a $600 (retail) Remington clone that is at least as good a Remington on a good day, and make them in a timely fashion, sign me up as a dealer.

I have been shooting long range Bench rest for 10 years or so and have two guns. Both have Savage Precision Target actions. These come in a number of forms for single shot as well as I think a mag fed action is also available.
If you think Savage isn't a good action, my wall full of ribbons from Bench Rest says otherwise.

I recently built one on the ignitor... I am happy with it very smooth .. my second choice was a pierce.. my next build I will try a pierce just to try something different

A good friend of mine was also in the market to build a custom... so both of us were exhaustingly researching... i was very interested in a bat action.. but what i knew was they were out of my price range... so i researched many others... the thing i like about what i know of bat's are their tolerances are one of the best out there... would i say there is something that sets it apart... i don't know....... i know i handled a few pierce actions at their shop and they seemed very good... very close to the bat..... but in the end i just wanted a bat I suppose.... my friend also decided on a bat.... long story short... we heard they were releasing it.. i called them to ask a little more information on them.... and the gentlemen there told me there was 21? in the first batch that would be ready in a couple of days... thinking to my self.. im sure that they are gone... i chuckled and said im sure they are all gone... he said no.. i think their are a couple left .... i told him i would call him back in an hour after i made my decision..... figured what he hell might as well get gone... and like i said i do like it very much .. would recommend it to any one... ... otherwise my personal list was pierce, defiance tenacity, kelbly atlas...... for me the pierce is higher than others, simply because im 60 miles from them, ive been to their shop and they were supper nice with a tour and just chatting about things...

My friend was considering the arc and the bighorn... there are afew aspects of these i dont really care for but by all means he could do what he wished... in the end he settled on a bat also... 25 min after i did.. and is very happy that he did..

edit: I should add that I believe my ignitor has a sako type extractor and i thought the gentlemen at bat said after this first batch they were switching to an m16 style... I could be mistaken.. but just thought i would throw that out there in case is something you wanted to ask bat about..

Looking at this thread this morning and considering the changing times, these actions may Soon cost a lot more than the now price of $1000.

+2 (I have two, a Gen 1 and a Gen 2, like them both). Interchangeable bolt heads have been mentioned for some of the other actions. The Nucleus has that too. Another factor to consider might be delivery time. The Nucleus is in stock. I don’t know about lead times on the others listed.

^^^ I believe Brownells has the Origins in stock. It's a good deal if you are an Edge member. $825 plus tax. No credit card fee. Limited to the 'tactical' bolt knob, although it appears that the 'teardrop' is shown. Not a deal breaker, at least for me.
