NEW 800 yd range in Louisiana

Wasn't feeling up to par for the November 600 match, or the steel "Turkey Shoot" afterwards.
Plus it was a miserable day weather wise.
Feeling better yesterday (Monday) so we spent most of the day shooting the shit, E-targets @ 300 and 600, and steel from 200 to 800. Had the range all to ourselves all morning.
Started out @ 300 on a ShotMarker, then to 600, then just played with the steel.
The 8" plate @ 700 sure looked small but wasn't the problem I thought it would be.
Small little plate made a goodly smack when hit (5 out of 5). The full size IPSC plate @ 800 was hard to hear impacts (that's my excuse).
I might have missed a couple there even though it was a giant sized plate
:)

200 to 700 was absolutely no problem. Flo liked shooting steel. She dialed, corrected her calculated dope by a tenth off the 600 E-target, I held over with the reticle.
Scope has 1/2 mil marks so holding .1 to .2 was easy. Like 4.2 mils on the .35 mil plate @ 700.

10 shot groups on the 600 yard target ran over an MOA, about 1.2 to 1.5 for each of us :(

Plate sizes were;
100 yds - 5" plate (5 moa, 1.5 mils)
200 yds - 8" plate (4 moa, 1.2 mils)
300 yds - 33% ipsc plate - 10" h x 6" w (3.3 x 2 moa, 1 x .6mils)
400 yds - 8" plate (2 moa, 0.6 mils)
500 yds - 10" gong (2 moa)
600 yds - 66% ipsc plate - 20"h x 12" w (3.3 x 2 moa) 2 MOA is like a nine on the F-Class target, I can do a 9
:)

700 yds - 8" plate (slightly over 1 moa, 0.35 mils)
Maybe I'll get lucky.
800 yds - Full ipsc plate - 30"h x 18" wide (3.3 x 2 moa).

I was running an Element Titan @ 25X, wife was using a Bushnell XRS-2 @ 30 X.

Another trip to the Bogalusa range.
Only ones there, even the owner was off running errands.
I bore sighted my new scope (Cronus BTR Gen2, 4.5-29X56 FFP) , took a couple sighter shots, adjusted zero.
Then let Flo start off with a 5 shot group @ 100yds.
We swapped back and forth, 5 shots each.
In this target she shot the left 6" target, I shot the right.

We then went to 300 and she shot this 5 shot group. Holes outside the 6" target were already on the backer. Our 300yd target is the one on the right of the 3 in a row in the first picture.
Jake had set up Shotmarkers for 200, 300 and 600. I just used my BullsEye camera.
My group wasn't as good @ 300
:(

:)
12-7-22-SAORSA-ACRES-300yds.jpgand yes, I am IMPLYING she walked those shots in. :)
Shot 300 for a few more rounds then off to the 800 plate.
She was all grins each time you heard the swack.

Good shooting and I like your wife's shirt.

I will check it out. 36 miles from the house. About the same distance to Honey Island (100yd only).
We go to Pascagoula for 600yd F-Matches, used to be a member but it's a 2 hr drive just for practice?
I wonder if the $500 member fee applies to Husband and Wife, or $500 each?
$500 gets immediate family in with you.

Here's the latest on the Saturday match, gonna be busy.

Upcoming Match

F-Open, F-TR, FPR, Sling, FPR and TacAR

We're shooting FPR and Tac AR a week early since the 4th weekend is falling on Christmas Eve.

Wow, was it cold today (for South Louisiana).
Drizzles, wind and cold, and I did not dress well enough.
Couldn't keep my hands and fingers still.
Scores were about the same as last month and the wife beat my score AGAIN :(
She has enough shots this year to get her Expert rating.
With the average temperature about 45F during the morning our SB6.5 loads were a little slower.
She lost about 20fps and mine about 30fps (at the ShotMarker). Headwind might have made up part of that. I didn't count participants but about 20. Had a 600 sling shooter and a couple 598 F-Open.
We weren't even close.
Britni started us off with a pastry bar and hot coffee. Coffee jitters, that's my excuse :)
For lunch a hot beef stew and rice. Tasty and timely. They run one of those quiet generators for the range kitchen. Jake and his dad are installing heavy wood tables and more shooting benches.
He now has a little moocow. Bought for 'steaks' but wife and kids have named him, started bottle feeding and petting.
I know how that's gonna turn out :)

Merry Christmas to Ya'll (generic pronoun)

I too shot this morning in Arizona and it was 36 deg at 7:00 when the sun came up.
20 mph head and 2 clock wind was brutal..my fingers still aint workin right.
My first sting was a mess at 592 and the best I did was a 596....but it wasnt pretty
with low x count in the 6 and 9 range.. ( 500yds )..I need to move further south or wait till summer..lol
High temp today was low 50s
Merry X-mas..my fellow shooters.
John

The whole State is cold. It was 17 (6,000 ft.) when I was out yesterday AM so I went to the shop which has heaters! Warmer today but still cold so I'm in the shop... We had 8" of snow in the beginning of the week!

Even Tucson is cold by comparison these days.

Made our first trip of the new year today.
Started out at 8 inch splatter targets @ 600yds.
We were able to keep MOST hits in the 8" black with the worst wind I have ever shot in.
At least it wasn't cold.
Moved in to 300 yards and the 8" targets were a piece of cake.
No 1 MOA targets to show this time.
Wind let up some as we were packing up and I shot the steel plate @ 300.
This is about 20 shots on a 2 MOA wide 300yd plate.

Missed the F-Class Match January.
Made a range trip yesterday to shoot 300 E-Target, and a splatter paste up, and a little steel.
Took this shot down the right side with my FZ80 camera.
The 100 yd plate and the 500yd rack didn't show in the pic but the 800 plate showed up pretty good.
Just can't see holes in the black at 3oo yd :(

Managed to get one practice session in before we made the Feb F-Class Match on the 18th.
Match day was the coldest we have ever shot. Left the house @ 31F, started shooting @ 36F.
But, we had LAYERS on :)
Still not up to par on our scores, but like any range trip, we had fun. Haven't seen the scores yet but I can GUARANTEE we were in the top 10 :) (and yes Flo beat me again).
Cold wind ate our lunch on windage, but I also had over an MOA in vertical.
We've been trying to fine tune a load with SB6.5 and Berger 85.5s and my dope has increased by about 0.2 MILS, up to 3.3 mils @ 600, since warmer range days. Cold weather has dropped the 600yd velocity (ShotMarker) by about 20-30fps on the 45F trip, and another 10 to 20fps @ 36F. Did have some headwind (12-2 O'clock). Warmed up a little and by the 3rd relay adjusted dope to 3.2 mils.
Dope from the JBM calculator shows about 0.1 MIL from the air, and another 0.1 mil from the velocity drop.
Avg across the target was about 1940fps.

A big shout out to Britni for lunch.

Made a practice session to Saorsa Acres today.
Jake had us set up on a 300 yd ShotMarker (F-class target this time :) ).
Couldn't get his LabRadar to register shots???
A little wind, party cloudy, about 75F.
Loaded up some 22N with Ginex SRP and CCI450.
GINEX-VS-CCI450.jpg
Finally under an MOA.

Ran two 20 round relays with CCI primers and the last one with the Ginex.
Didn't shoot well enough (cold and wind :)) to make a final decision.
Gonna have to practice more. Today wasn't one of my 1 MOA days.
The wife beat me AGAIN. Made 95%/over 60shots at the F-Class match Saturday. .

Wife and I made a 600 match Saturday @ Saorsa Acres in Bogalusa.
Was HOT and I got trounced. Had a 7 and a couple 8's in each relay. The worst in a long time. Something wrong for sure.
I had practiced with 88 ELD and 85.5 with Ginex and CCI450 primers @ 100 and 300.
The best seemed to be the 88's with the Ginex and 32.4gr of SB6.5.
The barrel, @ 3000+ rounds is suspect. Sending the 88's at 3000+fps (muzzle) for 600 yards might be too fast?
Guess it's back to load development. The 88s did better back when I was using IMR4350 @ about 2850fps (muzzle).
Nothing loose, just couldn't get in the groove. We have a week of rain coming so I'll get ahead on reloading for the next practice session.
New upper is ready.
Now the wife. First match with the new front rest. She used 85.5s, CCI450, and 31.4gr of SB6.5
(22 NOSGAR).
Getting a little over 2000fps across the Shot Marker @ 600.
Scored 179, 191, and a 195 for 3 relays (94.17%). Had to coach a little on trigger pull and it took a while for her to settle down. This keeps up she'll 'Master' before me.
Not saying what my scores were :(

Trigger talk:
We both have a LMB-2 with about 3.5lbs total pull. My new upper (whole rifle from spares) has a Schmid Inside two stage from midway on sale for $60 (only bought one while on sale) changed to a mil disconnector spring and a low power trigger spring. Floor of my 80% might be a little high cutting down on the first stage travel. Breaks quick @ about 2.5 pounds. Ready to try it out at the range.
The Schmid uses a common Trigger and Disconnector pin so changing the spring is easy. The LMB uses a separate peened pin making changing the disconnector spring a little difficult.

Modified MBT with light trigger spring and cut disconnector spring in video.
