I can see you don't shoot score matches. The problem you don't realize is recoil. Some guy's are pushing the limit with their 30BR'S. I can't imagine most guy's shooting a 338x47 with heavy bullets for a one day 2 yardage match. It's not going to happen!
Don't be afraid to put some powder in it.Update for my 30 BR. Loaded up some of Bart's 112 gr. FB/HP bullets. First 3 shots from a cold clean bore. Fantastic to say the least. Again, no disappointments with this rifle. But, then again what would I expect? Zack (WSMNUT) built it.
Absolutely.Don't be afraid to put some powder in it.
Little history lesson. Actually the 30BR is older than the 6BR. Although it was not called a 30BR back then. In March of 1961 a cartridge by the name of a 308x1.5-inch Barnes was developed. It's almost a duplicate of todays 30BR. A number of people back in 62&63 necked the 308x1.5-inch up and down. Mike Walker standardized the 6BR Remington in 78. Norma introduced their 6mm Norma BR case in 1996. I wouldn't say a 30BR leaves the 6BR in the dust. It depends on the application. For short range score especially at 100 yards shooting a 6BR is like bringing a knife to a gunfight IMO. In my 9 years of SR score shooting I've never seen a 6BR win a 100 yard agg. I've only seen a 6PPC win a 100 yard agg 2 times. So that says something about a 6 vs a 30 in that particular instance. At 200 and 300 the 6BR is not bad because at those yardages your just trying to stay clean. You might get out x'ed if a few people stay clean at 2 & 300 with a 30, but just staying clean is hard enough at those yardages. So what's the deal? I finally get up and rolling with the 6BR in competition, and now everybody is shifting to the new kid on the block (30BR), because it leaves the 6BR in the dust? Lol
Naw! You're just a few decades behind the times!! (Pretty much where I stay!)So what's the deal? I finally get up and rolling with the 6BR in competition, and now everybody is shifting to the new kid on the block (30BR), because it leaves the 6BR in the dust? Lol
I don't know about it leaving the 6BR in the dust but it certainly is one of the most accurate shooting little rascals I've ever had a chance to hand load for, no doubt about that. (WSMNUT) ODCR built mine and I enjoy getting it on the bench as often as I can.So what's the deal? Absolutely Jackie, please let us know how it goes for you.I am thinking seriously of shooting mine at the Texas State HV at Seymour in a couple of weeks.
I did last year at 100 and came in 3d against the top Region Shooters.
Beautiful looking rifle Bill !I don't know about it leaving the 6BR in the dust but it certainly is one of the most accurate shooting little rascals I've ever had a chance to hand load for, no doubt about that. (WSMNUT) ODCR built mine and I enjoy getting it on the bench as often as I can.
