New 284 Lapua brass dimensions

Looks like a whole new reamer is needed for them at the .2 line.

People that have a chamber for 6.5x284 lapua brass will be opening primer pockets rather quickly even with mild loads as it’s .5 at the .2 line

I have a .284win rifle that I dont shoot a lot (unfortunately).
When I shoot, I used Lapua 6,5-284 brass that I opened the mouth on the press. It worked great.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what are the changes on "new" Lapua 284 brass from the previous 6,5-284 Lapua brass? And what are the consequences for a reloader.

It means it's made to shoot 284 (7mm) out of the box and doesn't require any necking up, thereby preserving proper neck and shoulder dimensions from the get-go, no real need to fireform if you don't want to PLUS far less chance of donuts showing up or at least showing up in any meaningful way. I'm sure there's other things I'm not thinking of too.

I've put nearly 500pcs through its paces so far. Here's one of my most recent chrono results with virgin brass. I shot virgin brass today at a Palma Plus 20 match. Dropped 6 on the day and waterline was ridiculously tight. Can't wait to see what it does now that it's been shot once.

Thank you F-Class John!
I was wondering if I will have any problems using the .284 Lapua brass on my .284win rifle. I think I should not, but there a post suggesting there would be a primer pocket problem with "older" .284 chambers...

PS - Thank you for your videos on you Youtube Channel !!!

Still in stock at Mile High. I have 400 on the way. We’ll see, Peterson was OK. Looking for spectacular.

Two question;John if you were building a new 284 win would you choose the new 284 Lapua brass or Petetson?
Secondly would you change reamer dimensions for particular brass? The reamer that I have on order from JGS is .502 at the .200 mark. Is this going to be too big for the new Lapua brass?

First off I am in no way an expert when it comes to building reamers so I’m simply telling you what I use and then it works for me.
As much as I enjoyed shooting the Peterson and had good luck with it I honestly feel the Lapua yields me better results.
As for the reamer. I’m running .501 on mine. I’m not worried about it but it’s still early so check back in a year with me. Everybody has slightly different goals with their brass and how they use it so the question about the .200 line will probably have a few different opinions If you ask a bunch of people.

What size reamer to be used on a new 284 match barrel you think?
