Never thought.......

.........I'd see the day that an SKS rifle would sell for $700-750. WOW!! At a local gun show today and those were the prices I saw on a few rifles. I remember when dealers would bring them in the show in wooden crates still packed with cosmoline and wrapped in paper. $100 each.

Yep, I was in the business through the 90s in the largest LGS in California and we regularly would get 100-200 of them at a time and run them on ad for $79. Funniest part was the people who wanted to open 5-10 of them to find the best wood. Don't even get me started on how many thousand M1-Carbines we sold over the years for $100-200.

I remember that too. I never purchased one and probably should have. I always wondered how you would get all that goo off those guns.
We used to open the bayonet, stick it in the ground and use an old paint brush and gasoline for the bulk of the work. Finished up in the barn with a degreaser or whatever solvent we could find. I remember my Grand dad walking by, stopping, shaking his head and walking off, He did not care for commie products.

I never was a commie rifle type guy- except an AK. Thats the only one i want. An sks is just a $79 abandoned commie cobble, and thats saying something for commie stuff. Ive seen some sketchy stuff they still use. I witnessed a soviet era military helicopter with one 6” bolt and a scrap piece of angle iron for rudder pedals. Thats what i see in my head everytime i think of an SKS. One of these days id like to have an AK, but im going to wait to get any semi auto rifles at all until they prove to be a bit safer to have around. They seem to be dangerous- maybe its just me but i dont want one around me, especially if it has one of those high capacity clips i hear about

We sold them by the hundreds at Lapier's shop, 22 miles from a main importer, Century Arms. We'd take a trip over to VT to pick them and ammo up by the pallet, dealers' cost was under $40 each, ammo was cheaper, about $25/1000...warehouses full along with rail cars full

Here's the last one I bought -- full kit from KBI Importers. 300 bucks, clean and unfired since refurb. I don't think I got hurt on the investment.

I've got a soft spot in my heart for these little battle rifles, but I'm just that kind of guy. I just gave another of these to my best friend who needed a rifle for the apocalypse. That's the kind of weapon these are. They just generally work, and the world will never be out of the ammo they use. jd

You need some of those 80% fishing weights with the pre drilled holes for setting your trout lines for your high capacity fishing days.

My SK holds a special place in my heart . It brought me back to "THE WORLD" in one piece , mostly . There are other types of Battle rifles out there , and they do this , or that . But the one thing I can say about my SK is that it never let me down . Or I wouldn't be here talking about it now . When it absolutely , positively has to work , first time , every time ? I'll take my SK , EVERY TIME !

Long story. I went deer hunting with mine in the early 90s. A deer popped up and I let loose. My buddy came over the hill and said he thought a war was going on. I said no, I just shot a doe. Roberto went down and lifted its leg. He said, Butch, this doe has balls. We got back at camp and the rancher was coming over. Roberto said we might hide this little doe with balls. It fit in a feed sack. 3 weeks later we stopped at the processor to pick it up. The guy came out with a Playmate 6 pack cooler and handed it to me and said Mr Lambert I put a chicken in there with your deer to fill up the cooler. My friends and family will not let it go!

Yes, that was with a SKS.

Heres one i got out of a barrel at a gunshow for $250 way way back when they had to have so many american parts. Its a single shot. Never fired 2 rounds in a row

In another galaxy, a long time ago, we walked past piles of AK's and mostly SKS' confiscated from the "farmers" just south of DaNang and around ChuLai.....hundreds of 'em. I just assumed the engineers would burn them then blow them all up. Now seeing how popular these old commie rifles are, I've wondered many times how much those piles would be worth today.

I paid $100 for a nice Russian and $10 for a really nice Russian arsenal rebuild. Wow what a return on investment.

I suppose there's a few of us SKS fan-boys around here. Nobody seems to want to admit it in the wrong circles. Heck, these days, it's probably less shameful to "come out" as a tranny.o_O

That's understandable since this is the "Accurate Shooter Forum". SKS's aren't gonna win any contests for most accurate, but they are plenty of fun, and plenty adequate for plinking, defense, and deer sized game within their effective range.

I have greatly enjoyed the ones I've got, and the fun was for real. And Dusty, you must have a real lemon if yours has never functioned as intended. And since it has no bayonet, you're really screwed. :p jd
