Nesika NXP action

Has anyone used a Nesika NXP action. I am thinking of building a XP-100 style pistol in 6br from one and wanted some opinions. With the cost of xp i have found in the long run I think I would be happier going this route than finding a xp having it trued and rebarreled.

Thanks

Gary

GaryD,

I have been very happy with mine since early 2005. Great application using a left hand bolt and left hand port for a right handed IHMSA silhouette pistol. This one has a Dewey trigger and muzzle break, H-S Precision stock, Bomar rear with Bond front sight, and Lilja barrel chambered in 6.5 Grendel.

GaryD, I have several XP's and they are great actions, but finding one in top condition is getting very hard to do and when you do it still needs to be trued, a bolt release installed and bolt work. I ended up with more money in the thing then if you'd have just purchased a custom action to start with. I love my XP's but if I had it to do over I'd go with a custom action.

Good luck with your build.

DougF, that's one nice looking pistol.

I had NX action on sporter rifle built by McCluksy...Didnot encounter any problems with it...Bolt took PPC and BR cases...

Gary,

Mike Dewey put this one together. He is located in California but the last time I spoke to him he had stopped taking on work of this nature. However, I do believe he is still making triggers.

I do a fair amount of custom XP-100 builds for IHMSA competition and hunting and currently have my 4th Defiance project going. Here are a few pics of some of the Defiance's. Thanks, SR

This one is a rear grip Defiance in 7BR for IHMSA Unlimited competition. Krieger fluted barrel, rear grip HS stock.

This one is in 6.5 Grendel, Kreiger custom contour barrel, HS center grip silhouette style stock.

This one is also in 6.5 Grendel but is actually a Phoenix action. This was the first XP footprint action Glenn did under the Phoenix name. This was before he started doing his own bolts and this one uses a PTG bolt. Krieger barrel, HS center grip Varmint stock.

I too have been wanting another LR pistol. Being that Dakota owns Nesika now I'd be leery of dealing with them though. The NXP is nice but I will probably go Defiance or use a Bat action.

I would not hesitate at all to buy an action from Defiance in particular now that they are doing their own one piece bolts. Glen was still part of Nesika when my action was built in Sturgis.

Thanks all, I do like the look of the Defiance action with the gold inlay and now leaning that way.

Apache pm on the way

Hi,

I used to work for Nesika and I've built a few silhouette pistols on the action. Most notably the one shown in 6.5BR Ware shown below.

The NXP is a neat little receiver. All of the predominant features customary to the bigger actions are retained and it's a nice package overall.

This gun was a rare treat to do as Mr. Ware let me take the gloves off when I built it. It's a dual purpose pistol in that the scope is a quick detach with Bomar sight intergrated in the rail system. The wood is a nice stick of walnut and with it being a center grip its trigger is the linkage setup customary to guns like this. Trigger is a jewel. Careful examination of these photos is going to show some features on the action that are not customary to the std NXP. This was my doing in the effort to find an elegant way to put this thing on a diet.

Mr. Ware's desires on this gun weren't easy to bring to fruition. The balance between form and function were a narrow line and I danced right on the edge of it the whole time. I'm rather proud of this one. Challenges like this are fun. (fluting the already fluted barrel was interesting. . .)

Steve's had some remarkable scores with this and the accuracy at 200 yards has hovered around 1.5 inches. During testing I shot the gun at 100 and was able to print sub half minute 5 shot groups.

All this being said there are a number of alternatives. I worked for Glen at Nesika and have had the privilege of using several Defiance actions for rifles here recently. The lineage to Nesika is apparent (not a bad thing at all IMO) and there's been a few improvements along the way. Most notably the primary extraction cam. I do miss the enclosed shroud though. Just different strokes for different folks.

All the best and Happy Thanksgiving.
