Needless waste -- Canada to Destroy 11K Browning HP Pistols

After fleeing Canada for the last time in 1975, this crap does not surprise me at all.

For those in the USA reading this, can you imagine for a moment living in Canada, and you want to go shoot your handgun (that is IF you've been allowed to actually purchase one), to do so, you must go to the local cop-shop and get ready.......get a "permission slip" showing when you'll leave the house, and when the gun will be returned back there and locked up. Many times you must be a member of some club and store the gun there. Forget carrying it in the woods, using it (gasp!) for self defense or any other recreational shooting.

Beautiful country, great people, but run by total and complete socialist borderline communists that are enemies of freedom. Cherish the USA we have now, as it may not last forever.

So please excuse me now while I go hug my FN Browning Hi-Power.

As a Canadian it saddens me to see this happen, and guys it is happening on both sides of the boarder. Very little difference between some of your states and our country when it comes to gun laws. Not sure where the answer lies. We both live in a democracy where votes rule ( even stolen ones) and we are out numbered. Sad to say but we may need a war to rectify things. It seems that all the lice disappear when there are hard times. When push comes to shove the squirrels climb trees and the real men take up arms. We need a time when our governments are looking for guns for it's citizens to protect themselves. I only hope it is not too late.

Sad, but true.

Go ahead and destroy them, then when the shit hits the fan somewhere and Canada, like England, will need arms, guess who's door they will knock on? America, the arsenal of democracy, wasn't coined for no reason. Lend lease civilian arms...NO THANKS!

People are born in to a system and don't know what things were like beforehand. Eventually, years from now, the fecal matter hits the fan and the shackles are violently thrown off. It's a cycle that's been repeated multiple times throughout human history. Are people stupid? No, they just don't learn from history and are doomed to repeat it.

We now return you to our regular programming.

I’ve shot at Connaught, Gagetown, and Halifax. Canada as a country are in the same boat as many states in the US where the urbanites dictate the policy for all. There are good folks up there in the spaces between Quebec, Ottawa, and Vancouver, just not enough.

I think this Is the cycle your talking about.

“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.”

While I agree with most of your comments above it is my understanding is that most of these Brownings are extremely worn out having being used since WW2. The CDN army didn't replace them simply to get new ones. The Brownings kept falling apart and failing! The CDN military buys good stuff but keeps it way, way too long and past most reasonable replacement dates in other forces because it can't get new stuff quickly.

All the more reason to ship them to Ukraine, some of the hundreds of millions in our taxpayer dollars could fix them and deploy them to fight Russia. Has to be cheaper than drones.

Truer words were never spoken. Unfortunately now we not only don’t learn from history but if someone doesn’t like it, they just change it.

During a range session a couple of years ago, I talked with a shooter that claimed he was employed by a federal agency. I mentioned that I'd be interested in buying an M9 since they're being replaced by the Sig. He said it's not likely to be a possibility as most will be destroyed. I don't know where these decisions are made. It's not likely they're made at upper levels of government. More likely a military decision.

The posts about the guns being in poor condition is likely closer to the truth than many would like to think. I live under the thumb of the dictator pictured in the last post before mine, and I'm not talking about Fidel.

If they weren't in poor shape, we wouldn't be replacing them. Simple as that. I doubt the Ukrainians would want them, to be honest.

I know a few CDN military guys that have tried to compete with the issued Hi-Power pistols. They had a lot of reliability and accuracy problems, even after the guns were worked over by their unit armorers.

As to them being sold to the public, Canadians aren't allowed to acquire any more handguns than those they already own. That applies to new or used, we can't even trade them or give them away.
When you die, any handguns that you legally owned must be surrendered to be destroyed.

There are exemptions, for "elite athletes" whatever those are, and for those that need a handgun for their work. That's pretty tightly controlled, and I suspect that a soon as you're no longer in that business your guns will be seized.

Those of us that currently own handguns are the last generation of Canadians that will be able to do that.

That's what we're dealing with as a country, hopefully it'll change with the next gov't. Odds are it won't. Relaxing gun control measures, however misguided they might be, is playing with political suicide in today's screwed up world.
