LIST ADDED - Need advice on selling a large lot of guns

Sympathies to the OP and others who are/will be facing a similar situation.

Over a decade ago I learned a lifelong friend had developed Lou Gehrig's Disease. We had played music together and enjoyed decades of shooting sports together but I had relocated a thousand miles away. About four months before the end he communicated to me, "Rent a truck and come get everything". I wasn't able to do it before the end and so everything was scattered to the winds including several lifetimes of ammunition.

Also reminds me of my grandmother, having fainted on a couch when she was relocating to an assisted care facility, while dozens of antiques from the mid-1800s were hauled away and she got maybe three cents on the dollar of actual value.

An awful situation and condolences to all. Beware conmen, they prey on these situations

OP, we're waiting for the inventory.
I am still going through to see what everything is. The weird stuff that some people are into though…

I am a blued steel and walnut kind of guy with a leaning towards the milsurp and cowboy action side, and of course LR open sight target rifles.

Mostly what I have been through so far is the ‘tactical’ stuff, which is interesting considering the guy’s age. Also several pistols so far that are what you might call flashy.

Since you are close I would suggest you bring some of them to the Shilen Swap Meet in Ennis, Tx on March 25. No charge for you to set up and sell them.
I completely forgot this was coming up! This is a great idea.
I may just have to use a combination of all these ideas.

Anything in a .17 caliber (especially a CZ in .17Hornet or a 700 in Fireball), drop me a PM. :) Or an AIAT folder w/ thumbhole kit for a good price lol.

Otherwise, I think some good suggestions have been made here. Get a table at a show, figure out bottom dollar for things, mark them up ~20% above that and let people haggle you down some so they feel like they’re getting a deal. If it’s quality stuff, it’ll move!

Plenty of good advice for selling, I might share my opinions but I wanted to +1 on the suppressor:

ATF (and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas) doesn't play At All about NFA items. I my have missed it, but if not done already you need to get it to someone authorized to handle it, Immediately.

"NFA" is the term you are looking for. Plenty of sub-categories, but "class III" is not really a proper one for most of these things.

NFA is the National Firearms Act of 1934 that established all the categories, like rifle vs pistol, and all sorts of stuff like Short Barreled Rifles, etc. Suppressors (Silencers per the law) are legally firearms, not accessories. At all.

All NFA weapons regardless of category (machineguns, silencers, etc.) are controlled during their transfer from one entity to another. An entity can be a human, or a corporation, or a trust. These weapons transfer to another entity on ATF tax forms. Each ownership transfer MUST be approved by the ATF before the transfer takes place. There is no such thing as (legally) owning NFA items without the ATF knowing about it. Owning NFA items is the "full background check" and "being on a list" everyone yells about. No tricks, no loopholes.

NOT all firearms dealers handle NFA devices. And just like normal firearms dealers, not all of them like to fuss with random transfers, so call around first, and start with "do you do NFA transfers" then if so, explain the deal and see if they have advice (not legal advice for you but if lucky a "sure, we'll transfer to our books and hold it for you till NFA Branch advises further").

Yes, calling NFA branch (a division of ATF that deals with... you guessed it, NFA items) is helpful. But not open on weekends.

They are, despite what some say, perfectly nice people and mostly gun guys, etc. There are some procedures for handling inheritance of NFA devices, there's some leeway for actions taken in good faith:

However:

YOU ARE NOT A RELATIVE. You can do phone calls to help, but I'd get that suppressor out of your house as soon as possible. I would not drive it, but have one of the relatives do that. Stop doing things that constitute possession of a restricted, federal prison term, item. Today.

I’ve gone over what what’s here and decided that I will probably use a combination of a lot of y’alls ideas. Sell some on this sight, some on gunbroker, some at shows coming up, and then what’s leftover I’ll try consignment at some of the local gun stores.
