Need Initial Load Suggestions 6.5x47

Should be getting back next project rifle soon - Model 7 with 22" featherweight 9-twist barrel - will be primarily using 120 grain-130 grain bullets hoping for 2600-2800fps - this will be a young shooter's rifle, so I'm looking for consistent performance over temp spread here at sea level in SC from about 35 deg to 75 deg - sounds like 4350 may fit the bill but not sure of primers (the bolt has been modified by Gre-Tan Rifles). Getting ready to order more components and need suggestions for powder and primers.

H4350 and cci450 primers work for me. I use 140gr bullets now but found 41.4- 41.7 worked with 123gr. not going to set the world alight with speed but very accurate. Work up of course.

Have you chrony'd any shots in this load range?

Yes the 123gr amax load gave average 2906 in 26"barrel. If memory serves. es was around 15fps. I used 123 amax with 41.4 and 41.7 with 123gr scenars. I didn't chrony the scenars. Fyi my present load in a different 30" barrel with 140 amax is 40.2 giving 2730fps with single figure es seated 10thou off at 2.795.(long throat) All with h4350 and cci450 primers. All moderate loads in my rifle but work up in yours.hth

Many people have had good luck with Varget as well. Just a thought. ;D

Hey thanks Guys, I have 4350 but I'll also get some Varget - are you happy with the CCI 450's? - I don't know how 'hot' these are compared to others - any issues 'substituting' these primers in other load data listing other primers?

I've had good luck with Varget & 130 jlks (around 38 gr, + or -) in my Bat.
As always, work up your loads.

Cci450 work well. have used rem 7.5s but found es better with the 450's varget another good choice. around 37.6 worked well for me with 123 amax. a little faster but not as accurate for me. ymmv.

None of my reloading manuals or the Hodgons web site have listing for 6.5x47. Do any of the new manuals have that information?

I emailed hodgdon about it. I was told that lapua haven't released the data they need to do the testing. every time a request is made it is logged and when enough people are shouting for data they will push lapua for it. at the moment its not a popular enough round.

The new Berger manual lists 6.5-47 in a couple of variants.
