let me first say that i am new to rifle shooting. i have shot sporting clays competitvely for 4 years with much sucess. ok i have a rem 700 vssf 22/250 that i bought used it has a jewell trigger and a leupold vx2 6x18 bought the gun very right. i would like to have it rebarreled to either a 243 or some thing in a 6.5mm? we hunt coyotes here in illinois a lot in the winter time. this will be the main use of the rifle. but i would like to learn to shoot some long distance stuff as well. i think i would like to have pac nor do the work on my rifle. i can buy a barrel and have them lap and squar my action for about 500. that seems to be the best deal i have seen. after doing a search on this web site i have noticed a lot of guys saying that they would not let the barrel makers cut the chamber on there rifle barrels or install them. i dont understand? i dont no anyone else that can do this kind of work for me. any help would be great. the reason i just dont keep the gun the way it is is that i already have the same gun in 22-250. like i said to good of a deal to pass up. i would like to have a custom rifle just dont no alot about it.

For your use I wouldn't hesitate at all. I bought a PacNor Prefit in 6.8SPC for a Savage and it will bust out 3/8" 100 yd groups with regularity using SSA plinking ammo.

I'll go along with what rayjay just said. I have several Pac Nor match grade barrels for varmint rigs and they do quality work. For what you are looking to do, I would recommend Pac Nor.
Tell Penny at Pac Nor that I recommended them. I think what you are hearing is from benchrest shooters with regards to letting the barrel makers chamber their rifles. There are many reasons for this and bear in mind these guys are into precision shooting where they are concerned with several thousanths of an inch for group size.

PacNor will be a great choice for what you are looking to do and because they tend to do a lot of prefits they typically have a larger than avarage # of barrels in stock in 6mm and 30 cal in various twists and contours. They have a section on their website which shows what barrels they have in stock and it is quite extensive. Having them do the work will suit your needs just fine.

Pac-Nor barrelled the best shooting 6br I ever owned, I use it on varmints, but it sure would be competitive at a match at any distance.......

thanks guys i thought they would be ok for what i am after in a rifle. lee
