Need gunsmith to open Savage bolt face to PPC dimensions

I need a gunsmith who can open a .223 Savage bolt face to PPC dimensions and square the face off. Should be about a 10 minute job, unfortunately I don't have access to a lathe at the moment.

Any leads on who can do this with a relatively quick turnaround (2-4 weeks). Not in a super rush, but not looking to wait forever either esp since this is the last piece of the puzzle for my build.

Not sure if your extractor will work for this conversion. Hopefully someone can confirm either way.

Regards, Paul

Not sure if this helps ,
But I would order a PTG savage bolt head
I replaced the factory savage head with one ( 308 bolt face ( far far better option, better made, much higher quality and they had it in stock
not sure if option for you but I think youd be happier with the finished result !

No disrespect , but set up time is more than 10 min . I agree a small job , but it would be cheaper to purchase a PTG pPC bolt head .

Savage makes a factory bolt head that works for the 7.62 x 39mm Russian and I think that is the same size cartridge head as a PPC. I order 3 some time back for Russian and they are nice bolt heads and the factory extractor work just fine. Hope this helps.

I have a lathe and its not worth it to me to convert one. The stock one is just not the quality to take the time with. Now if their were not any options sure, but PT&G is top quality and available. I have several, this includes one PPC face for the 6.5 Grendel bolt action I built. They work and fit flawless. But its your decision. Matt

I emailed PTG the other day to make sure they bolt head I wanted was in stock. Haven't heard back yet. PTG bolt head $80 vs Savage on sale @ Midway for $11 plus cost to open it. I've read of lots of customer service and product issues w/ PTG which scared me off a little.

From what I've read, extractor will either work fine as is, or require a slight amount of relief.

7.62x39 bolt head won't work for me due to having a LH action. I could rotate it 180* and run it without an extractor, but if it came to that I'd just spring for the PTG.

Just my $.02 ,but I would charge moe than what a PTG would cost . Like I said , set up time , liability ins , overhead ,etc .
It's only worth it if you can do it yourself . Lathes are not that expensive . Just kiddin .

Yes, I see were the LH would be a problem and I don't know if Savage has that type bolt head in stock. You could call and find out or maybe someone with ties to the Savage factory could check for you. Extraction and ejection with the 7.62 x 39mm was not a problem but it was a bear to feed.

SSS makes a longer extractor that fits the 308 sized bolt head and works fine with PPC cases. I used one in a Remington conversion [ savage bolt head ] 6mm Beggs cartridge. Shot matches with it and had no issues. Single shot with no ejector.

I do not trust the PTG bolt head. They do not support the firing pin. Causes more accuracy issues.
