Need Advice - Stocks

Would like recommendations for a effective HUNTING stock for a Remington 700, BDL, Short Action, Varmint (channel) rifle. I had a Douglas Match barrel installed and the rifle is very accurate - caliber 223.

I've tried a Bell & Carlson Medialist stock - achieved excellent accuracy off the bench, aproximately 1/4 moa but the stock is so bulking its' like putting a sling on a log and carrying it on your shoulder. It's heavy and too bulky - great bench stock but lousy for the field. (I shoot off shooting sticks)

Also tried a Hogue Overmolded Pillar bedded stock - meets my needs from a weight and handling perspective but my groups opened up to over 1/2 moa. Used this stock before on other rifles and it work very well but this rifle doesn't like it.

I know, maybe I'm looking for the "silver bullet" but I'm seeking a steamlined stock for field use that will take advanage of the accuracy potential of this rifle. Any thoughts.

Checkout the link below. I have two of these stocks, great feel, handle good and accuracy is outstanding. I have a 700 shortaction in 6 br that I shot a .149" group while breaking the barrel in. The other is a 280AI that shoots exceptionally good with 140's.

They usually ship quick.

+1 on the Greybull. I just put one on my most recent build (264 WinMag). I believe they did a fine job in designing this stock for the guy who wants tactical style with real world weight and ergonomics.

Tommy Shurley at shurleybrothers.com will make any stock you want at a good price and can finish the job in minimum time.

I have a number of the HighTech stocks, they are light and solid, give them a call, 717-484-0405 web

Rare ,, But If you can find one off a 6.8 cal,, it had the full alum block.

Clicked on this web address and it send me to the wrong place. Is this web address still valid???

You could also check out Boyd's gunstocks. They seem pretty nice with a few options. And the prices can be great. If I were going for a hunting rifle they would be my first choice.

You might want to check out the Whidden 105. I just put a model 145 on a Remington SA, and it was a big weight improvement over the B&C Medalist. The 105 is a hunting stock so it will be quite a bit lighter still. It has a V-Block, so it's a drop in. Accuracy is quite a bit better that with the factory stock. I got a slight accuracy improvement over the B&C

Sorry for the poor pic, but pictured here is the B&C Medalist Light Tactical models.
Top is #1000 (M40 style). Bottom is #2956 (Thumb Hook).
The only difference is the buttstock configuration.
