New rifle - need advice

Don't over look the Styer Safe bolt--very nice rifle with no frills--shoots very well

JMHO-- I would find a nice Reminton 700 youth with a slick short barrel (that way you get the short tube) if you prefer the longer barrel go with something like an SPS and add the stock of your choice--see how well the factory tube shoots and re barrel when ready. low cost choice easy to make just like you want

I like the Tikka too nice out of the box rifle-- lots of plastic parts--I am a metal and wood guy-- very slick bolt

If you want to go budget don't overlook the Stevens 200

I just took a look at the 700 SPS Tactical yesterday and wow what an amazing little rifle. I love that Hogue stock. But that model only comes in 223 and 308. Of which I already own both calibers and in very accurate rifles. I asked if I could get it set up for 243 and there is not a way form the factory. I asked about the regular SPS and it does not come with the Hogue stock. So if I go with Remington again I might just build another 700 from scratch.

Barrel swaps,so easy a caveman can do it like me. Buy a couple tools and you are set for life.

Don't have any of the rifles in your choices except for the Savage. Mine is a Model 12 VLP in 22-250. It's a beautiful looking rifle and it's a shooter for sure. I shoots so well I've decide that it will be my 300 + yard rifle as soon as I can get to the range and zero it in at that distance. Its only drawback is that it's heavy, but i did not buy it to haul around the fields. I set up and wait for them to come to me. The Savage has not failed me yet!

Please enlighten me. I've never swapped out a barrel before. I saw a video of a Savage swap and it looks simple and was done lickity split. So what tools would I need and what is the process in I a nutshell I suppose? lol

All rifles will shoot well I have the Howa Axiom Varminter in 243 with a 24" barrel, Action is smooth and the barrel is great, I had to change out the trigger though as from the factory it was a little rough. But I have been nothing but happy with it. I shoot the 70 grain Blitzkings out of it for coyotes behind varget or N140 and it shoots 1/4"to 1/2" with regularity. I put the Nikon Coyote special scope on it and it works for me out to about 500-600 yards after getting used to the reticle in the field

How do you like that Coyote reticle? To me that thing looks like it would be more of a hindrance then an advantage.

Another option on prefit, drop-in stocks for the Savages in all action screw spacings is the H-S Precision.

Well I take that back, they haven't done the new dual port or repeater target actions yet, all the 2 screw 4.25 and 4.40" spacing blind or box mags, and the older 3 screw 4.40" target actions are covered.

Street price looks like $300.00.
