Would like recommendations for a effective HUNTING stock for a Remington 700, BDL, Short Action, Varmint (channel) rifle. I had a Douglas Match barrel installed and the rifle is very accurate - caliber 223.
I've tried a Bell & Carlson Medialist stock - achieved excellent accuracy off the bench, aproximately 1/4 moa but the stock is so bulking its' like putting a sling on a log and carrying it on your shoulder. It's heavy and too bulky - great bench stock but lousy for the field. (I shoot off shooting sticks)
Also tried a Hogue Overmolded Pillar bedded stock - meets my needs from a weight and handling perspective but my groups opened up to over 1/2 moa. Used this stock before on other rifles and it work very well but this rifle doesn't like it.
I know, maybe I'm looking for the "silver bullet" but I'm seeking a steamlined stock for field use that will take advanage of the accuracy potential of this rifle. Any thoughts.
