Need a set of custom dies.

Well my BAT finally arrived on Thursday, 25 May 2006. Boy the wait was killing me, I ordered that action on 10 October 2005. So be it, I here now and it looks great. Now the problem is,and I knew this was going to happen) my 6.5 x 284 reamer is at Pac-Nor cambering a new barrel for my Savage.
As soon as my barrel and reamer find their way back to me, I am going to send the action and reamer to Sid Goodling to build the rifle.

I want to have a set of custom dies made. What brand of die blanks should I use. This will be my first set of custom dies, so I am open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your help in spending my child's inheritance.

I used a Wilson straight seater and a Newlon blank for sizing for my last one. The Newlon is top quality. You almost cannot go wrong with just about any set of custom dies. You will need to send along some fired brass, so they can get the sizing die correct. Newlon also makes a seater die blank for a threaded press, if that is what you want. http://newlonprecision.com/

Why do you use your fired brass, how many times does it need to be fired) instead of the reamer you used to cut the chamber?

the reamer you cut the chamber with will not cut a resize die. It is the same as the chamber. I used a resizing die reamer for my last one. I was talking about sending fired cases to the die maker so he gets the die right. The gun I had made, the guy had two reamers, a chamber reamer and the resize die reamer.

I have had Jim do some dies for me and he does a great job. You will need to send him some fired cases also, so he can cutom hone your die for your chamber.

Buy a redding body bump die,$25) and send 10 pieces of your fired brass to Jim Carstenson. Last I knew, he charged about $80 to turn that into a custom FL size die with bushings and honed to fit your chamber.

After that go to the Wilson Seater and add the micro top,all under $100)

Hope it will be ready at 07/15/06.
