neck or full length size new brass

I have looked through search and didn't find an answer.

My question is do you neck size only or full length size new brass. I am fairly new to reloading for rifle catridges. Just trying to get the most out of my rounds. I am reloading for 6.5 Grendel, 6.5 X 284 and 308.

I run my new brass thru a full length die but I'm just getting the dents out of the neck. Not trying to size the body. I have just loaded new brass without sizing at all.

I always full length new brass not only for neck dents but other distortions that could cause hard chambering.

It also depends on what brass you are going to use. If it is premium brass like Lapua, I only neck size. This is simply to ensure I get the correct neck tension.

That's all I do with new Lapua brass. It's not unusual for some of my very best 6mmBR groups to be shot with brass right out of the box -- just eyeballed for flash-hole "flakes" and with the expander dipped in the neck to make sure they are round and to reduce neck tension a tad.

It just seems like some people actually believe something more that rounding out the mouths of the cases is needed for Lapua brass. They pay extra money for full prepped and ready to load premium brass amd them they go mess it up in a full length die.

With new Winchester brass, after rounding out the mouth, I camfer and deburr said mouth, pop the hanging chad of the flash hole and uniform the pocket and that's it.

Not all full length dies are created equal. Harrels 6br die produces far more consistent ammunition for me than just neck sizing with a wilson neck die.

Just bot sme Winchester 223 brass, some of it would not chamber in a .250 neck withour FL sizing, necks had some dents, so I just ran it all thru a FL die, no shoulder bump, and chamfer necks and loaded, All just fine, Lapua is an exception very fine out of the box 99% of the time, depends on brass what I do with it, Jonbearman pretty well sums it up.,,I feel it is better safe than sorry that a round wont chamber after it is loaded, then what?, you break it down and do what should have been done.

I stopped neck sizing a few years ago. I was always under the impression that neck sizing created more accurate reloads and longer case life. Another myth in our sport - I think

What I've learned is neither is true - but the key is properly full length resizing cases to assure that they are not oversized or under sized. The added benefit for me is that I don't have to worry about a function problem (i.e. failure to chamber or extract) in the field when my cases are properly full sized. I use a Wilson case gage to set my full sizing die which has worked quite well for me. Beleive or not, I've actually experience improved accuracy with cases sized in this manner than neck sizing and no decrease in case life.

I full size new cases (assuring that I don't oversize) to remove dents and assure case body and neck alignment then I trim, debur flash holes and uniform pockets. I use Rem and Win cases.

im not a br shooter nor do i have a concetricity gauge but this is what i do.
On my winchester brass i run one of the redding buttons through just the inside of the neck with lube, then seperately i neck size. On lapua or nosler brass i just necksize with no button. I was really impressed when i tried some nosler brass because it was all trimmed and chamfered, i only had one piece out of 100 that was dented and i used a button on. Even not using a button the brass would not scrape the bullet jacket. Still prefer lapua though. And i try to use lube whenever possible because of the huge reduction in friction, even over mica or graphite.
