Neat old Mauser in 22 find at LGS

I finally found a ring set up that worked for the gun. After searching 3 local gun stores, Walmart and Cabela’s, I hit Amazon. I found a picatinny adaptor rail that clamps on to the 3/8” rimfire rail. I didn’t know they made such a thing! It’s front extension allowed me to mount the T36 where I wanted it. As low as I could get and still clear the bolt by a hair. Now I can finally shoot this old gem!2AE22A71-A57D-44E4-82E0-4C1737CB7770.jpegFFCE0E39-E346-4859-92F4-C01CDDCC74A0.jpeg57A8B8EC-EB74-495F-9BA0-97529A62B57A.jpeg

Wet sanded the stock with 600 and 8 coats of Arrowood oil. The original finish was linseed oil of some kind. It was a little sticky in spots. With the Arrowood, it’s as smooth as a baby’s behind.

All this gunsmithing, love and affection is fine, but we are all waiting to hear HOW IT SHOOTS! So shoot it already!
Ok! I finally got out and shot it. I set up at 50 Yards, zeroed in the Weaver T36 and shot some groups. It did fairly well except for the trigger pull. Some shots had a 2-3 pound pull, some felt like 8-10 pounds. For some, I pulled hard, stopped, recocked the gun and tried again.

I’m liking the cheap CCI Blazer at $40/500 . The Eley Tenex and Club had nice groups but at $15 a box..........

In my Anschutz Tenex is the most accurate ammo, but Federal Gold Medal Target is a very close 2nd and much cheaper. FYI By the way great looking rifle.

Nice job Josh!

It sure looks good and seems to shoot great
Thanks. I got lucky finding it. I think I have a new Texas squirrel gun! I heard talk about the hog infestation before I moved but since I’ve been there I’ve only seen one . All my high powered hunting guns just sit. We are over run with squirrels, tho!
