Neat kinetic puller trick.

I'll stick to the original part the tool was designed for. It's worked fine for +20 years with frequent use with the original o-rings. I don't care for the way the press S/H holds the case so loose and rattles. I rely on the rattle to confirm the bullet is out. The screw off nut has a radius where it contacts the radiused factory holder and I don't think the plastic nut will last long using the sharper edged press S/H's. FWIW I pre-load for competition so it gets used several hundred times a year.
One last thing, there were incidents that proud primers were the cause of accidents with these tools, and there is a small margin for error with the press S/H's as they hold the case so loosely that the edge of the primer gets awfully close to the edge of the thru hole of the press S/H. Sometimes faster in reloading is not the safest.

My main use of the hammer style bullet puller is when you mistakenly seat bullets a little to deep. One small tap and your good to reseat to proper OAL.

I used one of these for 30+ years. I ended up buying a newer one about 8 years ago. One day I was using it and the hammer shattered and sent plastic into my face along with powder and plastic all over my reloading room.

i am Glad I had safety Glasses on. Never again will I use one of this things.

Maybe I should watch some vids on how to start a campfire or boil water? I see them on you blube too.

Used one of those until I tried the RCBS collet die, so much easier and I’m not whacking loaded rounds on hard surfaces. I’m sure it’s safe enough but……..

You hurt my feelings. I picked up t hammer style red RCBS with a bunch of other stuff and couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to use it.

Used it for the first time yesterday. Bullet came out with no marks. I have the collet style and several grip and pulls. I sort of like getting a bullet out with no marks on it.

The hammer works good for re-adjusting seating depth but if I needed to pull several bullets I would use my Forster press puller.

Yeah, if not careful collets can mark bullets pretty bad, but I relegate any pulled bullet to the pile for fouling or running through my MagnetoSpeed. Saves wasting pristine bullets.

Loosen the top about 3 revolutions and just stick the shell in there then tighten the cap & wack it....
Not a problem at all......

Anyway, we all play with our toys the way we want to !

I do not need to pull bullets very often but that was very interesting. I am going to try his method the next time I have to pull a bullet.

I used to use the shell holder method,but I went back to the o-ring around the 3 piece holder because I burred up the rim of some 223 brass I was pulling the bullets out of.Once they get the burr/notch from the shell holder,they have to be moved around to even get them back into the shell holder that was used to pull the bullet(s).I wound up using a small triangular file on the rim to make them fit in a shell holder.Half of the rim is unsupported when using a shell holder instead of the holder that comes with the whacker.

Another tip is to cut a piece of dowel to place in the bottom. Experiment with the length to get just the right length. That way you can pull the bullet out just enough to reseat to the new depth without dumping powder.

I have used my whack-a-mole a BUNCH... then I decided I needed to get a Hornady collet style....
It doesn't work well at all on SWC lead pistol bullets.....
and the collet for the .45 cal bullets just broke the lips off trying to pull lead bullets. They are so thin, that the lips of the collet break off almost the first time they are used.

It might work well on jacketed bullets, but if you don't set it to grip tight, it just slips off the lead bullet.

Could be operator error, but I don't think it was....

Using the shell holder is much faster than threading the case onto the rubber band insert. Saw it somewhere online right about the time I purchased mine some years ago. Only used the rubber band inserts a few times.
