My first PRS match

My brother and I shot in a PRS match at Volusia County hunt and gun club yesterday. Wow that was both fun and humbling. I new it would be far different than what i have done before. Got lots of good advice from more experienced members of the squad. The rain definitely made it a lot more difficult. I could barely see the targets in the driving rain, being all shot up and a sandy background. Was hard to get into the format, but by the 6th stage it was starting to sink in. Learned alot, now i have to practice, practice alot.

Yup practice and shoot as much as you can. After going to your first match you can also learn how to modify your gear you carry to make the match better in the future. Keep shooting and have fun.

You will be hooked! After shooting my first PRS style match, I knew this was the venue I wanted to shoot until I physically no longer can. It's just flat out more fun and interesting to me.

It incorporates so many different scenarios such as: Different stages, par times, round count, mag changes, endless props and positions to shoot from and etc...The folks, just like ANY shooting sports, are 99% awesome guys and gals.

This venue will make you fundamentally a better rifleman no doubt.

No doubt. Already ordered an arca rail setup with a game changer bag. Need a scope with a Horus reticle too.

First part is good but you don’t need an actual Horus reticle. A simple Christmas tree style works better. Horus are pretty busy and some have limited hold unders. Find a good reticle with a tree but not too many marks. I use Vortex 2C and 7C reticles and they work great for holds. There are also similar ones out there from other companies. Look at them before going to a Horus, which also usually adds about $400 to the price for licensing.

Volusia is a great place to get your feet wet in PRS. I'm glad you enjoyed it. We'll have to get together at a shoot.

I should have just said Xmas tree. I agree some of them look too busy.

Decided to get the Nightforce NX8 4-32 with the milxt reticle. Didn’t want to dive it on a high end scope till I know a bit about working a reticle like that.

Actually buying a $2100 scope is pretty much diving right in. Not the most expensive but more so than others that people use also. Should work fine for you.

Glad you had a good and fun first Match. That's the most important thing.Volusia puts on a nice shoot. I haven't shot there in a while, but I'm coming back. I know quite a few of the shooters and a couple or 3 that were in your squad.

Yeah Horus is WAAAYY too busy. I love the bushnell DMRII, XRS, G3 reticles. So easy.

That's probably the best reticle out there IMO. Use it in my Atacr and nx8 and love it. Enjoy the sport. Worry about getting better and shooting stages to the best of your ability... don't worry about competing with others. In time you will be rising in the ranks.

Enjoy the people and give back to the sport community when you can.
